On September 23 at approximately 3:26 am, Takoma Park Police responded to a report of an armed carjacking/robbery in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, specifically in the parking lot of the Red Carpet Inn.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “The Honorable Harry Storm has sentenced defendant, Kaleab Berhanu, 21, of Baltimore, to two consecutive life sentences plus 20 years for the shooting death of 20-year-old Carlos Carter. The sentencing hearing was held late Friday, September 20, 2024. Assistant State’s Attorneys Peter Larson and Thea Zumwalt prosecuted this case.” (more…)

According to District 3 Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Commander Jason Cokinos, MCPD officers seized two illegally possessed guns during proactive patrols this week, including one discovered during a traffic stop and another recovered from a suspect observed handling a gun in their waistband.
