Third Suspect Wanted for March Murder Has Been Arrested; Fourth Suspect Remains at Large

Per MCPD: “A third suspect wanted in connection with the March 5, 2023 shooting death of Deandre Keith Ellis has been arrested. D’Andre Lukes was located in Drums, PA and taken into custody by Butler Township Police. The 21-year-old is currently being held in PA, as he awaits extradition to Montgomery County. Ellis was shot and killed inside of a car outside of the Sweet Sweet Kitchen in the 900 block of Bonifant Street. A fourth suspect, 24-year-old D’Angelo Holley, remains at large.

Anyone with information regarding the location of D’Angelo Holley is asked to visit the Crime Solvers of Montgomery County, MD website at www.crimesolversmcmd.org and click on the “www.p3tips.com” link at the top of the page or call 1-866-411-8477. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Tips may remain anonymous.”

Montgomery County Man Sentenced for a Spree of 10 Armed Robberies During a Four-Week Period

Per the United State’s Attorney’s Office: “Quaysa Flumo, 35, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced today to 234 months in prison and Emmanuel Sumo, 29, of Takoma Park, Md., was sentenced to 214 months for a string of armed robberies that struck a series of gas stations, liquor stores, convenience stores, and restaurants in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, all within a four-week period in 2018.

According to the government’s evidence, Flumo and Sumo were members of a trio – which included Enyinna “Reggie” Onyewu, 31, of Silver Spring, Md. – and were found guilty by a jury in U.S. District Court on March 28, 2022, of federal conspiracy, robbery, and (for Flumo and Sumo) related weapons charges. The government’s evidence showed that Onyewu took part in five of the robberies; Sumo in seven of the robberies; and Flumo in all 10 of the robberies.

Detectives Investigating Shooting Involving Two Groups; Surveillance Video of Suspects Released

Per MCPD: “Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 26, 2023, in the 1000 block of Ruatan Street in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the two groups of suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them. At approximately 4:24 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that two groups of individuals exchanged gunfire on the side and the front areas of an apartment building on Ruatan Street. After the shooting, group one left the scene on foot toward Quebec Terrace, while group two left from the rear of the building and drove away in a white Honda Civic, which had tinted windows, a white rear spoiler and black rims. A large number of shell casings were recovered from the crime scene.

Rapist Who Met Victim Through Social Media Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Robert Greenberg sentenced defendant, Rome Hill, 32, of Silver Spring, to life in prison suspend all but 30 years to serve and five years of supervised probation. Hill was convicted by a jury on October 19^th, 2023, on charges of First-Degree Rape, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Handgun. The sentencing hearing was held this Tuesday, November 7^th, 2023. Upon release, conditions of probation will include registration as a Tier III sex offender for life and no contact with the victim.

On September 9^th, 2020, the defendant sent a friend request and private social media message to the victim who was a stranger to him. They messaged and spoke over the phone for two days. On September 11^th, the victim felt comfortable enough to meet Hill in person and invited him to her apartment. That evening, Hill produced a handgun and raped the victim. Assistant State’s Attorneys Frank Lazzaro and Christina Ferris prosecuted this matter.”

MCPD Respond to Armed Carjacking Tuesday Evening

Montgomery County Police responded to an armed carjacking on McMahon Rd, behind Glen Haven Elementary School and Glen Haven Neighborhood Park in Wheaton on Tuesday, November 7. According to police, “The call for an armed carjacking was received at approximately 7:42 p.m. 4th District officers responded and determined that a group of 4-5 suspects approached the adult female victim and demanded her vehicle. No suspects are in custody at this time. No injuries were reported.”

Public safety reporter Cordell Pugh reports that a Gray/Silver Nissan Sentra was stolen at gunpoint. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.

Germantown Man Sentenced to Five Years in Fentanyl Distribution Case

Per the Office of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney: “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Eric Johnson sentenced defendant, Eon Brummell, 27, of Germantown, to 20 years in prison suspend all but 5 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.

On Oct. 30^th, 2023, Brummell pleaded guilty to a Distribution of Narcotics charge that was filed in May of 2023 stemming from an incident in May 2022. He also pleaded guilty to Possession of a Large Amount of Narcotics due to the fact that he had 634 pills containing fentanyl in his possession when he was arrested in June of 2023. Judge Johnson issued his sentence at the time of the plea hearing.

Man Found Guilty in 2021 Germantown Murder Sentenced to 55 Years in Prison; Instagram Plays Role in Investigation

According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, “In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable John Maloney has sentenced defendant, Mario Samm, to 60 years in prison suspend all but 55 years to serve and five years of probation upon release. The sentencing hearing concluded yesterday evening. In April, a jury convicted Samm on charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a crime of violence for the death of 25-year-old Jahandar Darvish.”

This stems from an incident inside Darvish’s apartment on the 19300 block of Circle Gate Drive in Germantown on December 23, 2021. During an altercation, Samm fired seven rounds from two firearms, striking the victim three times. One of the other bullets went through the floor into an apartment unit below. There were no additional injuries. During the investigation it was found that social media posts of the defendant in the weeks preceding the incident, showed him with one of the guns believed to be used in the fatal shooting. Former MCPS Middle School Teacher Charged With Sexual Abuse of a Student

Per MCPD: “A former Montgomery County teacher has been arrested and charged with multiple sexual offenses for engaging in sexual acts with a minor. Detectives believe there may be additional victims. On Thursday, October 5, 2023, the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse by an adult male victim. The victim alleges that he had engaged in sexual acts with 31-year-old Melissa Marie Curtis of Upper Marlboro, when he was a minor.

The alleged abuse began in 2015 when Curtis was 22-years-old. The incidents continued for several months while the victim was a student at Montgomery Village Middle School, and Curtis was a teacher at the same school. All of the incidents took place within Montgomery County.

Two Men Wanted in Connection with March Homicide

Per MCPD: “Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes, Homicide Division, have requested and obtained warrants for two men wanted in connection with a March homicide and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating them. 21-year-old D’Andre Lukes and D’Angelo Holley are wanted for their alleged involvement in the shooting death of Deandre Keith Ellis on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Ellis was shot and killed inside of a car outside of the Sweet Sweet Kitchen in the 900 block of Bonifant Street.

Two other suspects, Kajohn McCombs and Ahmahd McCombs, both 22-years-old, were arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday, March 14, for their alleged involvement in Ellis’s death. They are being held without bond.

15 Years for Defendant in Shooting over Marijuana Deal

Per the Office of the State’s Attorney: “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Cheryl McCally sentenced defendant, Tavon Burton, 21, of Gaithersburg, to 20 years in prison suspend all but 15 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. The State requested Burton be admitted to the Patuxent Youthful Offender program and Judge McCally recommended he be admitted to the program while incarcerated.

Burton pleaded guilty on July 24^th, 2023 to first-degree assault for an incident on October 10^th, 2022 when he fired a gunshot at a 21-year old male from whom he planned to purchase marijuana. The victim told police Burton attempted to hand him counterfeit money and a confrontation ensued. As part of the plea agreement, Burton also pleaded guilty to an unrelated burglary charge from January 2021.”

Police Looking to Identify Armed Bank Robber

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, in the 9800 block of Falls Rd. in Potomac. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the male suspect and asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him. At approximately 11:05 a.m., 1stDistrict officers responded to the location for the report of a bank robbery.

The investigation has revealed that the suspect entered the bank, approached the teller windows, displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The tellers handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect who then left the scene. Detectives reviewed the bank surveillance video and obtained a description of the suspect.
