An arrest was made on Monday morning stemming from an incident that closed Greentree Rd. in Bethesda and involved heavy police presence for several hours overnight. According to Police, “MCPD responded to the 6500 block of Greentree Road for the report of a domestic-related assault.  Two adult victims were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening but serious injuries. The suspect has been taken into custody. There is no threat to the community at this time.”


The Maryland-Nation Capital Park Police Montgomery County Division have released additional information regarding a shooting that occurred in Germantown on Sunday, June 25. According to a press release, “The Maryland-National Capital Park Police are investigating a shooting that occurred today at approximately 6:30 p.m. at Clearspring Local Park located at 20101 Scenery Drive Germantown, Maryland.

At 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2002, a shot was fired through the window of a Michaels craft store in Aspen Hill. The bullet narrowly missed Ann Chapman, a cashier at the store. Since no one was injured, the shot was assumed to be random, and no serious alarms were raised. Approximately one hour later, at 6:30 p.m., James Martin, a 55-year-old program analyst at NOAA, was shot and killed in the parking lot of a Shoppers Food Warehouse grocery store located in Glenmont.


On Saturday, June 24 at approximately 4:30 pm, Takoma Park police responded to the 7000 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Grace United Methodist Church) for a burglary, according to a press release by the Takoma Park Police Department.

Per Takoma Park Police: “Unknown suspect(s) broke into the church sometime on June 22 and damaged an equipment cabinet and ransacked a private area of the church.  It is unknown at this time if any property was stolen. Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 6th District Investigative Section (6DIS) are looking for three suspects involved in a Gaithersburg commercial burglary.

On Wednesday, June 14, 6th district officers responded to the Tobacco King, in the 18500 block of Woodfield Road where they spoke with a caller who stated that when they arrived at the store at approximately 6:45 a.m., they noticed the glass door damaged and shattered.


The first suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5-feet, 8-inches, to 5-feet, 9-inches tall, between the ages of 17 and 18, wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants and red and black sneakers. The second suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5-feet, 6-inches, to 5-feet, 9-inches tall, between the ages of 17 and 18, wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants and yellow and black sneakers.


Per the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office: In the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Karla Smith has sentenced defendant, Steven Ray Beitzel Jr., 33, of Germantown to 85 years in prison suspend all but 32 years and five years of supervised probation upon release. The sentencing hearing was held yesterday, June 21st, 2023.

On March 23rd, 2023, after a two-day trial, a jury found Beitzel guilty of one count of Attempt to Disarm Law Enforcement and two counts of Second-Degree Assault. Following the conviction, the State and defendant entered into a plea agreement to resolve four remaining criminal cases involving charges including Motor Vehicle Theft, Assault, Armed Robbery, Robbery and Burglary. This stems from a string of incidents in 2021 and 2022.


Per the Maryland-National Capital Park Police-Montgomery County Division: The Maryland-National Capital Park Police are investigating the report of an attempted sexual assault that occurred today (Wednesday, June 21) at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the area of Beach Drive and Leland Road in Rock Creek Stream Valley Unit 1.

The victim, 17-year-old female, was jogging on Beach Drive at the intersection of Leland Road when a white vehicle approached her. An unknown male asked her if she wanted a ride. When she said no, the subject exited the vehicle and grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to fight off the subject who ran back to his car and fled the scene in his vehicle towards East-West Highway. The victim was examined at a local hospital to ensure she was not injured. Park Police along with Montgomery County Police secured the crime scene and canvassed the area for the suspect with negative results. The Park Police will be providing additional marked and unmarked patrol units in the area.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a residential burglary that occurred in the 3000 block of Calverton Boulevard in Silver Spring on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Detectives have released surveillance video of the suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that at approximately 12:52 p.m., an unknown suspect kicked in the front door and entered the residence. Once inside the subject put on a mask and sunglasses and proceeded to search the bedrooms and bathrooms. The subject was observed stealing personal property and putting it inside his pockets as he went from room to room. He then left the residence with the stolen property.  Detectives reviewed the surveillance video and obtained a description of the suspect.  The suspect is described as a Black male with short black hair, wearing a light-colored hooded sweatshirt with a red circular graphic on the chest, blue jeans, black backpack and white sneakers.
