Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrest of Merhender Birmingham, 47, of no fixed address, for an open warrant for 1st Degree Assault and possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) Crack Cocaine on Monday morning.

Per Takoma Park Police: On Monday, June 19, at approximately 11:51 am, Takoma Park Police initiated a traffic stop in the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland.  Investigation revealed that the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured and the vehicle driver was unlicensed.  Birmingham, who was an occupant in the vehicle, was known to police to have an outstanding warrant for 1st Degree Assault in Takoma Park.  Birmingham was placed under arrest.  A search incident to arrest yielded he was in possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) Crack Cocaine.  Other items of evidentiary value were recovered.  The vehicle was towed pending a search warrant.


Per MCPD: A 32-year-old Damascus man was shot and killed on the evening of Sunday, June 18, 2023. At approximately 9:57 p.m., Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District officers were dispatched to the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Rd., for multiple calls for a shooting that just occurred.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, James Joel Austin, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts by officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel, Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. There is no one in custody and no suspect information is available at this time. The victim has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.


Montgomery County Police responded to a stabbing on Sunday night at the corner of New Hampshire Ave and Powder Mill Rd (Exxon) in Hillandale. According to MCPD, “The call for a stabbing was received at approximately 10:55 p.m., on Sunday, June 18th, 2023. 3rd District officers responded to the location and located an adult male victim suffering from non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to an area hospital. No suspect(s) are in custody at this time.”

Montgomery County Police responded to a fatal shooting in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road on  Sunday, June 18. According to MCPD, “at approximately 9:58 p.m., the Montgomery County Emergency Communications Center received a call for a shooting at the above location.

Upon arrival, 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel located a 32-year-old male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene.  


Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department announced the arrest of Jessica Delgadillo, 46, of Severn, Maryland, for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Hit & Run that occurred early on Saturday morning (June 17th).

Per Takoma Park Police: On June 17 at approximately 1:09 am, Takoma Park Police were in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue on the scene of a four-vehicle collision when Delgadillo side swiped the driver door of the police officer’s cruiser and fled into Prince George’s County.  Officers were able to locate Delgadillo, who displayed numerous indicators of possibly being under the influence of alcohol.  A Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) was conducted, which she failed. Per Takoma Park Police: On February 18, 2023 at approximately 3:22 am, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7400 block of New Hampshire Avenue (Quality Inn) for reports of an armed robbery and assault.  The two victims and three suspects were hanging out together when one of the three suspects pulled a handgun and robbed the victims of property.  All three suspects fled the area in an unknown direction.  Descriptions of the suspects were provided by the victims.

Wenceslas Palle Sende, 31, of New Carrollton, Maryland.  Sende is being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on unrelated charges. Luis Ivan Marquez, 25, of Silver Spring, Maryland.  Marquez is being held at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections for a homicide.  An arrest warrant was submitted for Marquez for his role in the Takoma Park incident. Investigation is on-going.


Per MCPD:  Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a burglary that occurred on Monday, June 5, 2023, in the 600 block of Saint Andrews Ln. in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

At approximately 7:19 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of a burglary that occurred earlier. The investigation by detectives revealed that while the adult male victim was in his backyard, an unknown male suspect entered the victim’s garage, stole property and left the scene.   Detectives reviewed residential surveillance video and obtained a description of the suspect.   The suspect is described as a Black male, with long locs, wearing a blue baseball cap, a light blue sweatshirt, dark blue jeans and white shoes.


Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police- 5th District Community Action Team have arrested 20-year-old, Elvis Gomez of Boyds, for possessing a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute and a privately manufactured firearm (PMF).

At approximately 5:30 p.m., officers observed a blue 2016 Toyota Corolla commit a moving violation in the area of Wisteria Drive and Father Hurley Boulevard.  Officers initiated a traffic stop of the Toyota, which turned into a shopping center in the area. When the vehicle stopped the front and rear passengers jumped out of the car and ran away. Gomez, who was driving the Toyota, remained on scene. After talking with officers, Gomez took off on foot, running down Wisteria Drive. While running, officers observed Gomez throw the keys to his vehicle into a sewer drain. Gomez was quickly apprehended without incident.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred in the 5500 block of Executive Blvd. in North Bethesda on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Detectives have released surveillance photos the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 11300 block of Woodglen Dr. for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred. The investigation by detectives determined that an adult female victim was walking away from her 2015 navy blue BMW 535i, that was parked in the 5500 block of Executive Blvd., when the unknown suspect approached her, demanded her keys and displayed a dark colored handgun. The victim threw her keys at the suspect and ran toward Woodglen Dr., where she called the police. The suspect left the area in the BMW, traveling on Woodglen Dr. toward Nicholson Ln.


The guilty verdict was announced by Erek L. Barron, United States Attorney for the District of Maryland and Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Sobocinski of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baltimore Field Office.

“Avboraye-Ibginedion was part of a scheme that targeted elderly victims by falsely claiming that a grandchild was in trouble and needed money and convincing the victims to send them thousands of dollars,” said U.S. Attorney Erek L. Barron.  “If you or someone you know is a victim of financial fraud, please report it by contacting the Elder Fraud Hotline at 833-FRAUD-11 (833-372-8311).”


The Homicide Unit of Prince George’s County Police is working to arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a teenager and injured a second victim in the Langley Park area on Wednesday. The victim is 16-year-old Kevin Ruiz Campos of Silver Spring.

Per PGCPD: On June 14, 2023, at approximately 5:30 pm, officers responded to the 7900 block of Riggs Road for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Campos in an apartment building parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A second victim, an adult male, was also shot. He remains hospitalized.
