Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: Chief U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar today sentenced Oscar Armando Sorto Romero, a/k/a “Lobo,” age 23, to life in federal prison for a racketeering conspiracy and for racketeering, as well as related violent crimes in aid of racketeering, including two murders, connected to his participation in La Mara Salvatrucha, a transnational criminal enterprise also known as MS-13.  On January 24, 2022, a federal jury convicted Sorto Romero of the racketeering charges, along with co-defendants Jose Joya Parada, a/k/a “Calmado,” age 21, Milton Portillo-Rodriguez, a/k/a “Little Gangster,” age 26; and Juan Carlos Sandoval-Rodriguez, a/k/a “Picaro,” age 24, after a three-month trial.  Portillo-Rodriguez and Sandoval-Rodriguez were also convicted of multiple counts of murder in aid of racketeering.

The sentence was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Erek L. Barron; Special Agent in Charge Thomas J. Charles Smith, III; Chief Amal E. Awad of the Anne Arundel County Police Department; Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Anne Colt Leitess; Chief Malik Aziz of the Prince George’s County Police Department; Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy; Chief Marcus Jones of the Montgomery County Police Department; and Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy.


U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm sentenced Francis Arthur, age 35, of Silver Spring, Maryland on May 2, 2022, to one year and a day in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for a money laundering conspiracy and for money laundering in connection with a scheme to defraud victim account holders at a credit union.  As part of his sentence, Arthur has been ordered to pay $339,000 in restitution.

Edward T. Buford III, age 70, of Silver Spring, Maryland, pleaded guilty on May 4, 2022, to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and healthcare fraud. As part of his guilty plea, Buford will be required to pay $1,267,630 in restitution.

A Germantown man has become mentally competent to stand trial more than two years after he was charged with planning an Islamic State-inspired attack at a shopping and entertainment complex near Washington, D.C., a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Rondell Henry’s attorneys notified the court last Friday that he intends to pursue an insanity defense. Henry, 31, of Germantown, Maryland, was charged in 2019 with attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, the Islamic State group.


According to a press release by the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Maryland, Enitan Mouroukeji Agbi, a/k/a “Anton Agbi,” and “Tone,” age 38, of Germantown, Maryland, pleaded guilty yesterday to distribution of fentanyl. Agbi admitted that Victim 1 died as a result of using drugs that Agbi distributed.

Defendant Allegedly Used a Stolen Identity to Receive Child Care Subsidy Payments for Taking Care

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: A federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Andrews Oduro Brown, a/k/a Andrews Oduro, age 39, and Charmaine Miesha Brown, age 43, both of Germantown, Maryland, for conspiracies to commit passport fraud and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, bankruptcy fraud, and making false statements in a bankruptcy proceeding.  The indictment was returned on April 28, 2022, and unsealed upon the arrest of the defendants.


Rockville Police responded to a report of a carjacking at the 800 block of Hungerford Drive at approximately 2:45 on Saturday afternoon. The female victim reports that a man pulled her out of her red 2016 Nissan Altima (Md Tags 6DH0170z), jumped in and drove off. Additional information below, courtesy of Rockville Police:

4/30/22 – 2:45 p.m. RCPD has responded to the 800 block of Hungerford Dr for the report of an carjacking. The suspect, a black male, thin build in his 40’s, appearing disheveled, approached the victim, pulled her out of the car, jumped into the vehicle and drove off Northbound on Hungerford. The victim was unharmed. The car is 2016 Red Nissan Altima with MD Tags 6DH0170z Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes will assume the investigation into this incident. St. Veg, a fast-casual restaurant serving vegan cuisine that opened at 14929 Shady Grove Rd. Unit M, in Fallsgrove (Rockville) back in late 2018, had its front door shattered just after midnight, early Monday morning.

Anne, the owner, tells us that nothing of value was taken, but that the front door is completely shattered. Security cameras caught a suspect on video and a Montgomery County Police detective is currently on the case. Anyone with information can call the non-emergency police phone number at 301-279-8000.


The Takoma Park Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has identified and charged 21 year-old Abraham Douglas of Silver Spring, Maryland with the murder of 23-year-old Ahmadou Bamba Gueye of Takoma Park, Maryland. The incident occurred during the early evening hours of April 22, 2022 in the 7600 Block of Maple Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland. Through investigative means, Douglas was located on the night of the incident after burglarizing a residence in the 600 block of Kennebec Avenue in Takoma Park. During the arrest, officers recovered a handgun and a 50-round drum magazine.
