Members of the Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force conducted enforcement operations from December 17 to 20, making 239 traffic stops and issuing hundreds of citations, warnings, and repair orders. During that period, task force officers arrested 22 people for DUI, made one additional criminal arrest, and conducted breath tests and DRE evaluations, with officials noting that the total number of DUI arrests countywide is higher when patrol officer arrests are included. The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in Silver Spring, where an adult male was found with a gunshot wound and transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A Montgomery County Circuit Court judge sentenced Ervin Alfaro-Lopez, 34, of Germantown, to 55 years in prison, with all but 20 years suspended, after he pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and three counts of third-degree sex offense.

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that Dr. Andrew T. Fried, a licensed dentist and owner of Perry Hall Family Dental in Nottingham, MD, pleaded guilty to narcotics distribution and improper prescribing of controlled substances and was sentenced to 10 years in prison with all but one day suspended, followed by probation.

Several Montgomery County residents are among those who have now pled guilty in a large, multi-member federal money laundering conspiracy that involved millions of dollars in fraud proceeds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.
