Eight-acre Montgomery Countycampus adds upscale facility for executives and professionals seeking treatment

The Valley residential treatment center, a privately owned and operated treatment center is breaking ground on a new 6400+sq ft treatment residence at 19120 Muncaster Road, Rockville, MD 20855. The Executive Program at The Valley will serve professionals that would otherwise have left the state to find the level of amenities and understanding of treatment needs. The new center sits on an additional 1.5 acres of land connected to the 8 acres currently home to The Valley treatment center. With the addition of the Executive Program, the campus will have a total of 28 beds. The Valley offers “evidence-based inpatient treatment programs that integrates addiction treatment, substance use treatment, mental health treatment, and behavioral healthcare in a comprehensive, person-centered, therapeutic method. The new program will build on these methods in a new, separated home on the campus.”

The celebration will include free cookies and cider, a bake sale of homemade treats, hayrides, a farmhouse tour and an opportunity to see farm animals up close. The event will be hosted by Friends of the Montgomery Agricultural History Farm Park and supported by Montgomery Parks, which is part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.

The Agricultural Park looks at the past, present and future of farming in Montgomery County. The 455-acre park features rolling hills, open fields, an apple orchard and a variety of farm animals. It offers a unique perspective of the County’s rich farming heritage and enables visitors to experience barns, historic buildings, a modern farm activity center and other facilities.

Magruder High School’s “major capital project” renovation has been delayed two years, but is expected to be completed by August 2029, according to the latest MCPS Capital Improvement Program (CIP)/Master Plan. Relocatable classrooms will also be utilized at Mill Creek Towne Elementary school in the Magruder High School.

Per the CIP, to address various building systems and programmatic needs for Magruder High School (5939 Muncaster Mill Rd), a major capital project is planned. Expenditures for this project are included in the Major Capital Projects—Secondary and an appropriation will be requested for planning funds in a future CIP. Due to fiscal constraints, the County Council, in the adopted FY2023- 2028 CIP, delayed this project two years. This project is now scheduled for completion in August 2029.

The Office of Animal Services’ Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) on Thursday, Oct. 6, welcomed cats and dogs from Florida shelters to provide relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. Many of the animals are now available for adoption. MCASAC is located at 7315 Muncaster Mill Road in Derwood.

As a Best Friends Network Partner, the Office of Animal Services (OAS) received a request for aid. Working together with the Best Friends Emergency Response team, OAS was able to accept 10 cats and three dogs from the Humane Society of Pinellas, which acted as a transport hub for dogs and cats to move out of Florida in the wake of the hurricane to create more room in local shelters for displaced pets. Animals from the transport originally came from multiple Florida shelters, but primarily from Manatee County Animal Services.

The cats and dogs were given several days to relax and recover from their long road trip. They were then evaluated medically and behaviorally in preparation for eventual adoption at MCASAC. The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) provides high-standard sheltering and care to the homeless, abused and neglected animals and ensures the safety and welfare of the County’s residents. The Center is the County’s only open-admission, municipal shelter.

Lexi Suss, a rising senior at Magruder High School, recently started her own ice cream business to raise money for the National Brian Tumor Society. Lexi’s grandmother Jill Shultz passed away from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, earlier this year.

“I love playing basketball but have found a new passion for making ice cream! My grandmother recently passed away in January from a glioblastoma. I recently donated 900 dollars, two months ago, to the National Brain Tumor Society from a popcorn fundraiser but decided to start my own small business just last month making my own ice cream with a variety of flavors! All profits are again going to be donated to the National Brain Tumor Society. Ice cream can be delivered locally in the DMV and also picked up.”
