Redland Middle School in Derwood won first place in Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s “Paint the Plow” contest with a transportation-themed design titled “Life is a Highway,” part of Public Works Week recognizing the contributions of public works employees.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Montgomery County Division) responded to Lake Frank in Derwood on Saturday for a juvenile bald eagle caught in fishing line with a hook in its mouth. The eagle was rescued, treated at the Moon Owl Raptor Center, and will be released soon.

During National EMS Week, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) honored the staff of Colonel Zadok Magruder High School for their heroic actions during an emergency. The team saved the life of paraeducator and assistant football coach Soneka (Peter) Nankhuni, who experienced cardiac arrest after a student-staff basketball game (video below).
