Magruder High School graduate Bongani Ndebele was recently named a Transform Mid-Atlantic Civic Fellow at George Washington University. Ndebele, was one of two students named fellows for their leadership on campus and propensity to create change both at the university and in Washington, D.C.

Last year, our very own “Mr. MoCo” released a list of his favorite steak and cheese subs in Montgomery County. The Washington Spirit and ESPN 630 will team up to broadcast 13 regular season matches in the Spirit’s first-ever radio partnership, the club announced today. The partnership will begin on Saturday, May 18 when the Washington Spirit faces Angel City FC and will extend throughout the 2024 season. Match audiocasts will stream live directly to WashingtonSpirit.com, as well as the ESPN 630 app and website.

Nonprofit affordable housing developer MHP has officially launched a new $20M campaign to double its impact by the end of the decade, activating a plan to expand and preserve more affordable housing in Montgomery County, MD and across the DMV. As of today, MHP has raised $15.8M, 79% of its goal. The news was first reported this morning by Source of the Spring.

The American Cancer Society has relisted the property that was donated to the organization by former Washington Commanders owners Dan and Tanya Snyder just two months ago. The news of the listing was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, which noted that the original donation comes with tax benefits that would not come with donating the proceeds of the home sale. The Snyders will be able to deduct fair marker value of the property from their taxable income according to the market value of the home that was determined by a third-party appraiser. The appraised value has not been made available.

Malai, a New York City-based ice cream shop, opens in DC at 1407 T Street NW on Saturday, May 18, at 12 p.m. The shop “brings a taste of India in every bite and every cone, through its spice forward flavors, and its creamy textures. We are inspired by the traditions, culture, and heritage that India brings, and we show that through our products, hospitality and design.” Malai is owned by Pooja Bavishi, winner of Food Network’s Chopped Sweets competition.
