A powerful winter storm is shaping up to impact a large portion of the eastern United States late next week, with forecasters increasingly confident that the event could bring widespread disruptions lasting several days. As it stands on Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS), shows a good chance for moderate impacts in much of Maryland and Virginia.

Almost all major weather models are now showing a strong signal for significant snow impacting the region this coming weekend. Some model outputs are displaying extreme scenarios, including snowfall totals measured in feet, but forecasters caution that the event is still roughly five days away, leaving plenty of time for the setup to shift.

It was a record-breaking night in downtown Washington DC as the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) brought its Takeover Tour to Capital One Arena. The matchup featured the New York Sirens and the Montréal Victoire, marking a major milestone for the league, which launched its inaugural season in January 2024 and now includes eight teams across the United States and Canada.


Washington Spirit goalkeeper Lyza Jessee has retired from the NWSL after three professional seasons in DC, she announced today. “I want to sincerely thank the club and fans for their support throughout my career,” said Jessee. “I am so grateful for my time with the Spirit, DC will always feel like home.”
