Per MCPD: The Montgomery County Department of Police made thirteen arrests on Monday, November 13, all involving stolen or carjacked vehicles.
Ledo Pizza Corner Shoppe has opened its second Montgomery County location at Giant Food at the Orchard Center, 12028 Cherry Hill Rd, in Calverton (Serviced by Ledo Pizza Colesville). Ledo opened its first Montgomery County Corner Shoppe location in Olney earlier this month.
Previously, Ledo Pizza opened its first “Ledo Pizza Corner Shoppe” inside of a Giant Food store at 1649 Crofton Center in Crofton, MD (Anne Arundel County) this past summer. The “Corner Shoppe” offers take and bake pizza that allows customers to take home a frozen pizza to bake themselves at a later time. The store will also offer hot pizzas from the oven as well.

Chick Fil A on Tech Rd. in the Calverton/Fairland/White Oak area (technically Silver Spring) has temporarily closed for renovations. The store closed on Thursday at 2pm and will reopen in 8-10 weeks (approximately two months).
Update: The road is no longer closed, but some lanes remain blocked. Delayed expected.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision on Cherry Hill Rd at FDA Blvd in Calverton around 6:30am on Thursday morning. According to Battalion Chief Steve Mann, the vehicle rolled over due to the collision, trapping two inside. The two patients, including one adult, were extricated and transported to the local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Some lanes on Cherry Hill Rd are now blocked between Powder Mill Rd & Gracefield Rd/Calverton Blvd
Compass Health Center, a group that provides intermediate levels of behavioral health care, including outpatient psychiatry, partial hospitalization (PHP), and intensive outpatient (IOP) programming, has signed a lease with SJ Capital Partners to occupy 15,732 square feet of space at 11941 Bournefield Way in WestTech Business Park (in the White Oak area). Kenneth Fellows and Robert Pugh, Partners with Advisory Services with Edge, represented the landlord and Brandon Nasatir of Savills represented the tenant in this transaction.

Compass is expanding by opening its first Washington, D.C.-area location. Founded in 2011 by psychiatrists David Schreiber, MD, and Claudia Welke, MD, Compass Health Center works to achieve successful outcomes for patients struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and bipolar disorder. Compass’s Silver Spring location will open in September 2023 with adolescent, young adult, and adult in-person and virtual programs, with plans to add child programming in 2024.
Edge has brokered three new leases at 12301 Old Columbia Pike in the area between White Oak, Fairland, and Calverton (all considered Silver Spring) in Montgomery County. Dance Silver Spring, LLC, an upscale dance studio for children and adults that operates more than 300 studios worldwide, was represented by Jonathan Hamburger of CBRE. Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, a union that represents more than 60,000 workers in all craft and skill areas in the printing and publishing industries, and Habesha Spring Driving School, a professional driving school that offers a variety of driving classes for students of all ages were self-represented and are among the new tenants in the building.
Per Edge: Located at the intersection of MD Route 29 and Tech Road, 12301 Old Columbia Pike features nearly 34,000 square feet of commercial office. Renovated in 2021, the asset is less than two miles from MD Route 200 (Intercounty Connector), three miles from Interstate 95, and four miles from the Capital Beltway (Interstate 495). A number of hotels, restaurants, big-box retailers and fitness centers, as well as other amenities, are located within close proximity. The property is also directly across the White Oak Town Center Development, which will house more than 100,00 square feet of new retail amenities.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire began as a brush fire that then extended to the façade of the building. The cause of the fire was likely improperly discarded smoking materials (cigarette butt) and damages are estimated to be around $50,000. The building was evacuated and there were no injuries reported.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire began as a brush fire that then extended to the façade of the building. The “sizable” exterior fire has since been knocked down. The building was evacuated and there were no injuries reported. We will post an update when more information becomes available.

Silver Spring-based Aziyo Biologics (located in Calverton), a commercial-stage regenerative medicine company, announced that Aziyo co-founder C. Randal (Randy) Mills, Ph.D. has assumed the President and Chief Executive Officer role on an on-going basis. Dr. Mills, who is internationally recognized for his contributions to the field of regenerative medicine, has served as the Company’s interim CEO since June 2022. The company also announced that it has entered into a $25 million credit facility from SWK Holdings Corporation.

Earlier this month, Giant Food celebrated the grand opening of a new Maryland store located at 12028 Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring (Calverton). The doors officially opened at 6 a.m. on Friday, August 5th and the company touts 100 new jobs to the Silver Spring community and comes following a season of grand re-openings at three additional Giant Food stores across Maryland and Virginia. During the Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony, Giant Food president Ira Kress joined the Wizards and Capitals’ mascots, MoCo Councilmember Tom Hucker, WTOP sports anchor Dave Johnson in presenting $3,000 checks to Manna Food Center and Impact Silver Spring. The new store replaces the Giant store located at 11701 Beltsville Drive in Beltsville.
