Earlier today, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released his recommended Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Operating Budget of $7.1 billion, an increase of 4.9 percent from the FY24. The Montgomery County teacher’s union, Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA), has issued a statement in response to the budget, expressing disappointment.

More than 350 students from 35 MCPS middle schools and five high schools took part in the Montgomery County History Day competition last week at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School. More than 120 people volunteered as judges to interview and score the students’ projects.

Three supporting services employees have been named finalists for the 2024 Supporting Services Employee of the Year. This year’s annual awards, given by SEIU Local 500 and MCPS, is recognizing Chaula Butterworth, paraeducator, Farmland Elementary School; Robin McCue, administrative secretary III, Department of Athletics, and Bruno Smith, building service manager III, Mill Creek Towne Elementary School.

Per MCPS: The Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) 2024-2025 Change of School Assignment (COSA) transfer season is open until Tuesday, April 2, 2024. The COSA process allows families to submit a request for their children to transfer out of their assigned home school. All COSA request applications must be submitted no later than Tuesday, April 2, 2024. (more…)
