Earlier today in a media briefing, MCPS informed the public that it will be sorting schools into three categories– green, yellow, and red.

The categories will identify whether individual schools are below the 5% threshold (5% of the population of students and staff testing positive for Covid-19 in a 14 day period).


Sam Jones has passed away at the age of 88, According to the Boston Celtics. NBA.com stated that Jones had been hospitalized with failing health and died Thursday night in Florida.

He was also one of only three Boston Celtics, along with teammates Bill Russell and K. C. Jones, to be part of the Celtics’ eight consecutive championships from 1959 to 1966.


A notification was sent home today notifying the Wootton High School community of 42 positive cases from Friday evening, over the weekend, and today. In the letter, the school stated that it would be pausing the JV and Varsity Girls Basketball and Varsity Boys Basketball programs.

Montgomery County Public Schools sent out a community message on Friday afternoon with updated guidelines for sports and afterschool activities. The letter states that all-in person, non-athletic afterschool activities have been suspended from December 20 through January 7, though community events and day care can continue as scheduled.

Athletic practices and games can continue as scheduled but all athletic games scheduled to take place during Winter Break (December 23-January 2) are now cancelled, though optional practices are allowed.


MCPS has posted an important message on the homepage of its website notifying the community that the school system and local police have been made aware of viral online threats that have been going on across the country.

In the message, which can be seen below, MCPS states that there is no indication that the threats have any credibility.
