On Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, the Montgomery County Board of Education voted unanimously to tentatively adopt MCPS’ Operating Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026.

The Board of Education held its third work session on the Fiscal Year 2026 operating budget with a focus on the superintendent’s planned restructure. In an update sent out on Monday morning, the Montgomery County Board of Education identified areas for possible savings in what was referred to as a tight budget year. The Board of Education shared the following:
MCPS has shared that students in the Montgomery County Students Automotive Trades Foundation (ATF) and Information Technology Foundation (ITF) will sell used cars and computers they have refurbished from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Damascus High School, 25921 Ridge Road in Damascus. The cars and computers are reconditioned by the students as part of their classroom and lab studies.
MCPS has shared that registration for the upcoming school year (2025-2026) for Prekindergarten and Head Start will begin on March 3rd and online registration for kindergarten will begin on February 3rd. Additional information below, per MCPS:
Two educators from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) have received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST), the highest honor bestowed upon K-12 math and science teachers by the U.S. government. Joan Shane, a math content specialist at Sligo Middle School, and Krishni Patrick, a 5th-grade teacher at Piney Branch Elementary School, are among six award recipients from Maryland.
