Roberto Clemente Middle School (RCMS) in Germantown hosted its first-ever Fiesta Latina on Tuesday, October 8th, and by all accounts, the event was a huge success. The all-day celebration brought together students, staff, and community members to honor Hispanic Heritage Month with music, learning, and schoolwide excitement.

During Thursday, October 16th’s Montgomery County Board of Education presentation, Chief Academic Officer Niki T. Porter and Chief of District Operations Adnan Mamoon outlined new considerations for the ongoing Crown Boundary Study, including the potential to use the planned Crown High School as a temporary holding site for other schools undergoing major renovation or reconstruction.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is investigating an incident at Sherwood High School after senior class t-shirts distributed this week included a combination of letters and numbers that evoked a racial slur. In a letter sent to students, families, and staff, district leaders said the design, which was intended to celebrate the Class of 2026, appeared to resemble the N-word and described the situation as “unacceptable and wrong.”

Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas W. Taylor has released a new facilities strategy as part of the district’s Proposed Capital Improvements Program (CIP) for Fiscal Years 2027 through 2032. The presentation, titled “Building Our MCPS Forward: Hard Truths About Our School Buildings and How We’ll Fix Them,” outlines a data-driven plan to repair, replace, and modernize aging school buildings while addressing fiscal and enrollment challenges.
