Montgomery College will recognize the class of 2024 at the 77th Annual Commencement Exercises this Friday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. on the Rockville Campus Athletic Field. The College will recognize students from the Germantown, Rockville and Takoma Park/Silver Spring campuses, Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs, the Board of Trustees Academic Excellence honorees, and the four honorary degree recipients.

Montgomery County Public Schools has issued a community message concerning the “Senior Assassins Challenge,” a water gun tag game currently being played by students across the country. According to USA Today, “instances of students playing the game have resulted in disturbances, such as a student breaking into another student’s home to “tag” them with a paintball gun or a group of students wearing ski masks entering a restaurant to find their opponents and being confronted by a licensed concealed pistol holder.”

Last week, the Montgomery County Education & Culture (EC) Committee unanimously recommended restoring $49.5 million in funding to the district’s fiscal year 2025 budget. SEIU Local 500, MCEA, and MCAAP/MCBOA have released a statement strongly supporting EC’s recommendation as a solution to secure the funding needed to preserve the district’s ability to provide high-quality learning experiences for students and district-wide staffing needs.  “This welcome development comes on the heels of County Executive Marc Erlich’s egregious proposal to cut $55.7 million from the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) budget.” Full statement below:
