According to a recent statement by MCEA, MCPS Chief of Staff Pete Moran sent the following email to MCPS principals highlighting several key points that relate to the identification of schools that will receive a staffing reduction and the timeline that will need to be implemented. Applicants must be Montgomery County residents and registered for at least six credits this fall

Montgomery College (MC) is providing a $1,000 tuition scholarship to Montgomery County residents who are spring 2024 graduates from a Montgomery County high school and are taking at least six MC credit hours this fall. The $1,000 “Raptor Ready” Scholarship may only be applied to fall 2024 tuition and fees, and the application MUST be completed by August 1, 2024. The first 750 eligible applicants will be considered for the scholarship with all others added to a waitlist.


More than 20 MCPS middle school students were recognized during the annual Mosaic, Celebrating Diversity through Creative Writing Awards Ceremony on May 22. The writing contest for middle school students was sponsored by Friends of the Library, Montgomery County. Entries were essays, short stories or poems and allowed students to express their personal reflections on diversity and culture. Winners can be seen below:

Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of people in the community during the 2023-2024 campaign, MCPS provided more than 10,000 students in need with backpacks and supplies through the GIVE BACKpacks campaign. Now, the 13th annual GIVE BACKpacks campaign to purchase backpacks and school supplies for MCPS students has begun.

During the Maryland History Day Contest held earlier this month, several MCPS students from middle and high schools advanced to the National History Day competition set for June 9-13. More than 350 students from 35 MCPS middle schools and five high schools took part in the Montgomery County History Day competition last week at A. Mario Loiederman Middle School. More than 120 people volunteered as judges to interview and score the students’ projects. The students advancing are:

MCPS will be piloting girls’ flag football at all 25 high schools during the upcoming Fall 2024 season, through a partnership with the Baltimore Ravens and Under Armour. MCPS and the Ravens will be hosting skills clinics for interested students June 4-6. Please note the following:
