April Longest, principal at Farmland Elementary School in Rockville, is this year’s winner of the Mark Mann Excellence and Harmony Award. The Mark Mann award is presented annually to an MCPS administrator who has shown exceptional performance in promoting academic excellence, positive human relations and community outreach.

A team of local Montgomery County high school students recently won first place, the Inspire Award, in their division at the 2024 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) World Championships.

Megan Lee of Watkins Mill High School and Kairo Maysonet Walker of Julius West Middle School were the top winners in their respective categories in this year’s “Keeping it Safe Coalition” student video contest sponsored by Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) and the Montgomery County Police Department. The annual contest encourages student teams to create 30-second public service announcements about the risks of under-21 alcohol use.
