The Montgomery College and Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) partnership is offering the Middle College Program to qualified MCPS students from three different high schools.

The University of Maryland College of Education has named former MCPS superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight as its inaugural Dean’s Fellow and Superintendent in Residence, effective August 23. According to the University of Maryland, the new position has been created “to help strengthen partnerships between the college and PK-12 schools across the state.”

The Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) has welcomed new officers for the upcoming school year. The teacher’s union has shared the news of Kember Kane as treasurer, Dustin Jeter as secretary, Danillya Wilson as Vice President, and David Stein as President. More about each below, per MCEA:
Rising seniors Abby Sorkin and Emily Sefcik from Sherwood High School started the “Sports for All Club” during their junior year. They collected donations of new or gently used sports equipment at their school and donated it to kids from under-resourced communities.

Y2K referred to the potential of computer errors related to the formatting and storage of calendar data for dates in and after the year 2000. Montgomery County was preparing residents and offering information through town hall meetings set across the county.
