MoCo native (Brookeville) and 2023 Sherwood graduate, Bryan Kim, will be one of 16 amateurs teeing off on Thursday, June 13th, for the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst Resort No. 2, hoping to win low amateur honors and contend against the world’s top players.

MCPS recently shared the news of John Chase, math resource teacher at Walter Johnson High School, winning the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for expository mathematical writing from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), for an article he co-wrote, “Bacterial Growth: Not So Simple,” in Mathematics Magazine.
There are 182 public high schools in Maryland with an approximate average of 1,030 students per school. All of the 20 largest schools when it comes to enrollment have at least double the average. Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA, teacher’s union) president Jennifer Martin has provided an update stating that MCEA has learned it is unlikely that there will be any layoffs.
On Thursday, Sean McGee, Associate Superintendent of School Support and Well-Being for MCPS, announced that the school system had decided to temporarily pause the selection process for Montgomery Blair High School’s next principal. The search will resume during the 2024-2025 school year. Kevin Yates, the current principal of Damascus High School who is retiring from his position on July 1, will serve as the acting principal of Montgomery Blair High School starting August 15, 2024. MCPS recently highlighted 2024 graduate, Edna Reyes’ successful journey to this year’s graduation. She has navigated and completed three programs simultaneously and earned a recognition for students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages in high school.
