Halloweentown has become a cherished Halloween staple for families since its debut in 1998. With its whimsical portrayal of a magical world filled with witches and goblins, the film captivates audiences each year as they revisit Marnie Piper’s enchanting journey. Kimberly J. Brown, widely recognized for her role as the teen witch Marnie Piper in the Halloweentown films, is from right here in Gaithersburg.

Smile 2, the upcoming  psychological supernatural horror film written and directed by Parker Finn, will be  in theaters on October 18th. The film, which is a sequel to 2022’s Smile, stars Naomi Scott as a pop singer who begins to experience a series of increasingly disturbing events as she is about to go on tour. Montgomery Count my native Ivan Carlo has told us he has landed a supporting role in the film (movie trailer below).

As noted earlier this year, Montgomery College will host “In Conversation with Giancarlo Esposito” at the Robert E Parilla Performing Arts Center in Rockville on Thursday, November 7.  Esposito is perhaps best known for his role as Gustavo Fring in AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”

Director Keith Boynton (The Winter House, The Scottish Play) has directed his eighth feature film and first foray into horror this Halloween season with The Haunted Forest, starring seasoned genre star Jamie Bernadette (Spit on your Grave: Deja Vu) and newcomer Grayson Gwaze. The movie was filmed at Markoff’s Haunted Forest in Dickerson/Poolesville, which has recently has recently launched its 32nd season as one of Maryland’s scariest haunts.

VisArts (155 Gibbs St. in Rockville Town Square), a hub for artistic exploration and social impact that has been bringing people together through shared creative experiences since 1987, has announced new Board appointments and the selection of Sonal J. Mehta Verma as President of the Board of Directors. VisArts also announced it has been awarded a two-year, $300,000 grant from the Windgate Foundation to augment its Center for Craft Studies initiative.
