Maryland native Harry Akakpo’s tattoo is a permanent love letter to home– a beautifully detailed narrative of his identity and a tribute to the Montgomery County, Maryland, DC, and DMV region. Every element of the design is steeped in meaning, reflecting his upbringing, his heritage, and the cultural tapestry that has shaped his very being (video of the tattoo below).
“Remember that guy who used to paint at Rio?” Many do. If you walked through Rio in Gaithersburg between 2000 and 2016, you likely saw George Petridis working on one of his beautiful paintings, with many of his other works on display in the atrium just outside the movie theater. For more than 15 years, Petridis showcased his art and continually crafted new pieces, often interacting with those who stopped to appreciate his work amid the bustle of the Rio crowd.

Downtown Silver Spring is hosting its 3rd Annual Chalk Fest on Saturday, May 10th from 10am until 4pm– a community celebration of local art and the refreshed 350-foot street mural, Sweet Network, by CHALK R!OT.
