The Washington Metro is known for its engineering feats, and while the Wheaton station holds the distinction of having the longest single-span escalator in the Western Hemisphere, the system’s elevators boast impressive records of their own. At Forest Glen (located in Silver Spring, Maryland), riders take the longest elevator trip in the DC Metro system… a vertical rise of 196 feet.

Cynthia Adarkwa, a writer-producer on HBO Max’s hit medical drama The Pitt, took home an Emmy last night as part of the show’s Outstanding Drama Series win, an honor with a Montgomery County connection. Adarkwa is a Montgomery Blair High School alum (Class of 2006).

Tillman, a native of Prince George’s County, MD has made history at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards. The Severance star won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, becoming the first Black man ever to win in the category. According to Variety, it was the only acting field in the Emmys’ 77-year history that had never before honored a Black performer.

The Farmers’ Almanac and the Old Farmer’s Almanac, each using their own traditional forecasting methods, have released predictions that highlight the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

When a man from England stumbled upon a Facebook group called “Maryland is a cult. Not a state,” he decided to join purely because the name made him laugh. Having never visited the U.S., let alone Maryland, his only prior association with the word “Maryland” was a popular British brand of cookies. But after four months in the group, he’s developed a surprisingly sharp understanding of what makes Marylanders tick.

Montgomery County’s own comic and cosplay festival, RisuCon, will return on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The convention will run from 10am to 8pm and promises a full day of activities celebrating anime, comics, cosplay, and pop culture.
