Songwriters in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. are invited to compete for $10,000 and a chance to perform on one of the region’s premier stages. Applications are now open for the 10th Anniversary Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards, founded by Cathy Bernard to honor her uncle, Broadway legend Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York). The competition culminates in a live concert featuring the finalists at the Music Center at Strathmore right here in Montgomery County on April 24, 2026.

The annual Takoma Park Folk Festival will bring a full day of music, art, and community spirit to the area on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 10:30am until 6pm.  The popular festival, held at Takoma Park Middle School (7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma Park, MD 20912) will feature performances by local and regional musicians, artisan vendors, family-friendly activities, and food from a variety of local vendors.

Sunday night was filled with laughter, gasps, and outright amazement as Maximum Magic Shop (currently located in Potomac) put on an unforgettable show at Give a Hoot Comedy Club in Gaithersburg. The event featured a lineup of local magicians from across the DMV area, leaving the audience thoroughly entertained and, for a couple attendees, literally hypnotized (video below).

DC Metro has the most escalators (and elevators) of any transit system in North America with a total of 674. Metro’s longest escalator is at the Wheaton station right here in Montgomery County. The 230 ft. escalator is the longest single span escalator in the entire western hemisphere (video below).
