The GWGVFD is Hosting its Family-Friendly Open House Event on Sunday, October 8

The Gaithersburg Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department (GWGVFD) will be hosting its family-friendly open house on Sunday, October 8th at 801 Russell Avenue in Gaithersburg from 12pm until 4pm. The event will offer experiences for the entire family, including food, beverages, and music provided by the department. There will be be fire safety demonstrations, a moon bounce, the opportunity to climb onto a firetruck, and meet and greets with firefighters, EMTs, and Sparky the mascot.

Since 1927 the Gaithersburg Washington Grove Volunteer Fire Department has served the communities of Gaithersburg, Washington Grove, Derwood and Montgomery Village. The GWGVFD operates two stations with both volunteer and career personnel. Their volunteers are involved operationally as Firefighters, Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. They also have administrative volunteers with many of their members having served for more than 20 years.

STEAM Festival (Family Event) Takes Place on October 21

The MCPS STEAM Festival takes place on Saturday, October 21st from 10am-1pm at Wheaton and Edison High School campuses (12401 and 12501 Dalewood Drive in Silver Spring).

Festival highlights the educational, cultural and financial impact of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts And Mathematics (STEAM) in the county. Families can participate in hands-on activities, talks, lab tours, nature experiences, exhibits and performances. A highlight video of last year’s STEAM Festival can be seen below.

A Germantown Family is Hosting a Haunted Trail This October For Halloween

The Salgado family, known for their extravagant yearly Christmas display, is hosting a haunted walkthrough this year for Halloween at 11609 Lucrece Ter. in Germantown. The Christmas display will be returning following the Halloween display. The “Salgado’s Haunted Trail” was created by siblings Pahan and Supuli Salgado and their cousins Nimaya and Nipun (video and photos below).

They will be open Sunday, October 1 from 7:30pm-10pm and from October 6 through 15 from 7:30 to 10pm. Then they will open on October 20, 21, 22, 27, and 28, and on Halloween 31 October from 7:30pm to 10pm (all weather permitting).

Rockville to Host Salute to Service at Veterans Day Ceremony

Rockville will honor veterans of our nation’s armed forces with a ceremony at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. The ceremony is planned for Veterans Park, at the intersection of MD 28 and Rockville Pike. Free parking will be available at Sandy Spring Bank, 611 Rockville Pike.

The ceremony, which is open to the public, will include a wreath laying and a presentation of colors. A reception will follow at American Legion Post 86, at 2013 Veirs Mill Road. Car Show Revs Up at Rockville Civic Center Park on October 14

The Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show, a city tradition for six decades, rolls into Rockville Civic Center Park on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The show’s 60th edition will be held 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the picturesque park at 603 Edmonston Drive. Home to the historic Glenview Mansion, the hills of Rockville Civic Center Park offer a fall backdrop for collectors and enthusiasts to share memories as they stroll through vehicles from 32 car clubs, from Packard and Plymouth to Fiat and Ferrari. This year’s special display will celebrate 75 years of Lotus.

Outdoor Ed. Celebrates 60th Anniversary at Lathrop E. Smith Education Center

Oktoberfest Returns to Kentlands October 8

The City presents the 30^th annual celebration of Oktoberfest on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from noon to 5 p.m. The festival takes place in and around the Arts Barn, Kentlands Mansion, Kentlands Village Green and along Main Street & Inspiration Lane. Rocktobierfest returns to Rockville Town Center on Saturday, Sept. 30 for a day of bands, beers and being together. The fifth edition of the free festival, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., will include two stages of live music, food, beer sales by local breweries, and an artisan shopping area.

Bavarian and rock musical acts will take the stage, including Mike Surratt and the Continentals, Under the Covers, Capital Effect, Chesapeake Sons, Alt Washingtonia and Rockville German Band. The 42nd annual Takoma Park Street Festival will take place on Sunday, October 1st, 2023 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm and once again will fill the streets of Takoma Park with music, artists and makers, community groups, green companies and great food.
