The entire community is invited to join the City of Gaithersburg for its annual Veterans Day Observance on Saturday, November 11, 2023, honoring & recognizing all U.S. military personnel who play an important role in safeguarding our nation & our future. The observance takes place at 11 a.m. at the City Hall Concert Pavilion.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: The patriotic ceremony will include words and music to commemorate the occasion, followed by a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. City officials and members of local veterans groups will be on hand to honor those who have served in all branches of the military.


It will be a great opportunity to learn more about Montgomery College classes, offerings, scholarships and financial assistance programs. There will be information available about WDCE (Workforce Development and Continuing Education) offerings, such as information technology, cosmetology, real estate, youth programs, early childhood education, automotive technology and building trades, and more.

For residents seeking information in Spanish, the College’s Hispanic Business Institute and the Early Childhood Education program will have Spanish-speaking representatives on site to answer questions. The whole family is welcome at this free event. Held rain or shine.


This Saturday, October 28th, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington are once again hosting their annual Halloween Movie Night. This year, “Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation” will be shown at dusk in St. Paul Park on the big screen. Costumes are encouraged for all attendees. The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Kensington will have refreshments available for purchase in the Park, including pizza, popcorn, and candy. Glowsticks will be available as well!

This year, the Kensington Volunteer Fire Department will also be visiting BabyCat Brewery’s 1st Halloween-iversary party. According to the Department’s Instagram story, they’ll bring one of their Fire Engines to the Brewery from 12PM-3PM.


The 4th Great Montgomery County Bike Summit takes place Sunday afternoon, October 29, 2023 at the Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, 11701 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902, organized by the Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA). Media representatives are invited and may register via the summit Web page, waba.org/MoCoSummit2023.

This free event will advance the cause of safe biking for all across Montgomery County. It will bring together policy-makers and advocates for presentations and panel discussion, charting progress toward building out the network of trails and protected bicycling lanes and meeting the county’s and State of Maryland’s Vision Zero commitments.

The Fall Makers Market & Pumpkin Fest is taking place at Rio Lakefront in Gaithersburg on Saturday, October 21st from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. The Fall Makers Market is curated by Locally Crafted on Grand Corner Avenue and will feature m handmade products from 80+ local artisans, cocktails by California Pizza Kitchen, fall activities for all ages.

There will also be a Fall DIY Workshop that is free with $50+ purchase. Prepare for an epic battle of Old School vs New School this Fall! The Teen Program in Takoma Park will be hosting a basketball game with 10 adults against 10 teens to determine the ultimate Old School vs New School match up! Who will take the crown?! The winning team is awarded a trip to a Washington Wizards basketball game! Teens (Grades 8-12) and adults wanted! Thomas Edison High School of Technology (12501 Dalewood Dr. Silver Spring) is hosting its Open House for this school year on October 19th from 6-8PM. All MCPS families are welcome to come learn about Edison’s programs and meet their career and technology teachers and community partners.
