Gaithersburg’s SummerFest (Including Fireworks Display) Will Take Place on July 1st

Celebrate America’s independence with friends & family at SummerFest, Gaithersburg’s illuminating summer festival on the expansive grounds of Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm. The free event takes place on SATURDAY, JULY 1, 2023, from 6 to 11:30 p.m. The festival features live music, food trucks, local breweries, family-friendly activities, all leading up to a spectacular fireworks display & SummerGlo After Party.

The Water Park & Miniature Golf Course open at 11 a.m. and the Skate Park opens at Noon. Note that the Water Park will be open for the exclusive use of City residents & aquatics members only on July 2. There are entrance fees for the Water Park & Miniature Golf Course. The air-conditioned Activity Center will serve as a comfort station with indoor bathrooms & space to relax up until 9 p.m.

City of Gaithersburg to Recognize Fallen Soldiers on Memorial Day

Loyalty & patriotism will be on full display as the City joins the nation in honoring all who have given their lives in military service at its Memorial Day Observance on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Christman Park. The public is invited to join the Mayor & City Council, Junior Mayor Milly Abdo, City staff and honored guests in a tribute to those of all generations who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Joining the May 30 observance is guest speaker retired Army Lt. Col. Larry D. Williams. Williams is a trial attorney, a member of the U.S. Supreme Court, Supreme Court of Virginia, and the Armed Forces Court of Appeals. He has been a guest lecturer at the FBI Academy, and has published articles in the “American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology.”

‘Flags For Our Heroes’ Returns to Gaithersburg Memorial Day Weekend

Flags for Our Heroes, featuring a giant display of American flags, returns to the lawn at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm, Friday, May 26 through Monday, May 29. The flag display, which is lit at night, can be enjoyed 24 hours a day. A formal opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 27 at 11 a.m. There will be a flag retirement ceremony on Sunday, May 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Flags For Our Heroes is a celebration of the people who have shaped us and inspired us. Each Memorial Day weekend since 2014, Gaithersburg’s Bohrer Park is transformed into a Field of Honor where 750 8-foot-high American flags are flown to celebrate our heroes. MoCo’s Second Annual AAPI Heritage Month Celebration Takes Place in Germantown on Sunday, May 21

Montgomery County is hosting its second annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21 at Seneca Valley High School. The day will include cultural performances, a health fair, crafts and games for kids, a cultural and community bazaar, food vendors, henna, face painting and more.

This event is being hosted by Montgomery County Government’s Asian American Health Initiative and the Office of Community Partnerships. Seneca Valley is located at 19401 Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. More information can be found here. The event will feature:

AAHP Community Day 2023 Takes Place May 20 in Germantown

African American Health Program will celebrate the 9th annual AAHP Community Day on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 9 am to 2 pm at Montgomery College, BioScience Center, Germantown campus, 20200 Observation Drive, Germantown, MD.

This year’s event will include a walk/run/bike activity, which will begin at 7:45 am. AAHP Community Day 2023 will also include an interactive discussion with youth, parents, and the community on security, change, and wellness. In addition, there will be pertinent workshops, physical activities (e.g., Zumba, line dancing, etc.), fun activities for children and youth, a host of exhibitors, and something of interest for all ages. 41st Annual Strawberry Festival to Take Place in June

Another year, another Strawberry Festival! The 41st annual festival will take place at the Sandy Spring Museum (17901 Bentley Road) on June 3 and 4. “You might not think it’s possible but this year’s festival is going to be more fun than ever! That’s because it’s the 41st year and there are at least 41 great things to look forward to.”

What’s the Strawberry Festival? It’s a giant block party, picnic, neighborhood gathering, and community celebration all rolled into two days of outdoor, family-friendly fun. Live music from two stages, kids’ games, petting zoo, pony rides, food trucks, crafts sale, the world’s greatest strawberry shortcake and many more activities. You can even eat crickets (video below)!

WOODMOORstock 2023 is happening on June 10th, 2023 (55 Bands, 11 stages)

Silver Spring’s Woodmoor neighborhood music festival, known as WOODMOORstock, will be held for the second consecutive year on Saturday, June 10 (rain date: June 11) from 12pm-6pm. Festival organizers have released the lineup and schedule below, which includes 55 bands who will be playing on 11 volunteer stages around the Woodmoor neighborhood.

Many of the inaugural WOODMOORstock performers are set to return this year, and nearly 40 great new additions to the lineup from all over DC Metro and Baltimore area, including: Pinky Lemon, Dot Dash, Sleeping on Saturn, The Grasso Brothers, Black Shag Sherpas, The Threetles, and many more.

Carnival Returns to Lakeforest This Month

The Jolly Shows Carnival will be at Lakeforest (701 Russell Avenue) in Gaithersburg from May 17th through May 28th. There will be over 30 attractions, including carnival rides, games, and food wagons.

According to the Jolly Shows Carnival website, “We are a new generation of carnival operators who strive to be more progressive and professional. We realize that we must produce a premium product for our customer’s hard earned money. Free Bike Repair Pop-Up Coming to Crossroads Farmers Market May 24

On Wednesday, May 24th, in celebration of National Bike Month, the Planning Division will be tabling at the Crossroads Farmers Market from 12:00-2:00 pm. In addition to free bike safety swag, Upshift Workshop will be providing free basic bike repairs on-site, on a first come-first serve basis, rain or shine. “We want to make sure our local bike riders are road ready now that the good weather is back!”

Applications Open For Young Entrepreneurs to Present at Children’s Business Fair

The third annual Montgomery County Children’s Business Fair will return in August after a three-year hiatus. Applications are now being accepted for the fair, set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. The fair, which will be held in Rockville Town Square, is open to youth aged 6-15.

The deadline to apply is Friday, June 2. Applications are available here. Open to the public, the fair will host 40 young entrepreneurs. Those selected will have an opportunity to present innovative ideas and make sales pitches to a panel of judges from the local business community and celebrity influencers. Participants are responsible for setup, sales and customer interaction. The goal is to give the participants real-world business experience.
