Friday, August 12th is the first day of the 2022 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. The fair takes place August 12-20 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds (501 Perry Parkway, Gaithersburg). Sitting on 62 acres, the Fair has more than 50 buildings that are filled with more than 5,000 animals every year. The Fair has animals, entertainment, food, commercial, home arts, arts and crafts exhibits, free entertainment, and much more for the whole family to enjoy. The annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair will be held over nine days for Aug. 12-20 at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center fairgrounds in Gaithersburg. The fair is operated by the Montgomery County Agricultural Center Inc., which was formed as a privately operated 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization in 1949. The fairgrounds are located at 501 Perry Parkway in Gaithersburg. General admission is $15 onsite and $12 online. Children 11-and-under are free. Parking on the fairgrounds site is $10. Free parking with shuttle bus service to the fairgrounds is available from nearby Lakeforest Mall at Lost Knife Road and Odenhal Ave. Special admission days will be Senior Day on Tuesday, Aug. 16, with free admission for attendees 62-and-over from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Military Day on Thursday, Aug. 18, with free admission all day for active military in uniform or with a valid military ID from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.


The DC Hot Air Balloon Festival is coming to the Montgomery County AG Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg on September 17 and 18, with gates opening at 3pm. Tickets for entry are $20/adult and $8/child and can be purchased at https://www.freshtix.com/events/dcballoonfest. Tethered hot air balloon rides will cost and additional $25.

For the Grand Finale each night after dark (about) 9pm the event will feature “the fantastic Hot Air Balloon Glow & Laser show” where all the balloons will be lit up in unison with crowd participatory “Count Downs”! This show incorporates Music and visually stunning coordinated burns by the Hot Air Balloons & Lasers- creating a Glow. Bring your blankets, chairs and umbrellas and set up your own “perfect” viewing spot!


Universities at Shady Grove (USG) announced a partnership with Manna Food Center to offer “Manna Choice Market at the Grove.” Launched in 2022, this program will bring a market-style distribution of food right on campus starting in August 2022. On the second Wednesday of every month, students and their families will be able to access the market to select fresh produce and other perishable and nonperishable healthy foods. It will be located at 9631 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, Maryland 20850.

Their mission is to end food insecurity through food distribution, education, and advocacy. The Montgomery County Food Council invites all food and beverage professionals to participate in our 2022 Food Expo at the Silver Spring Civic Building on Thursday, July 28th from 11AM – 2PM.


Known internationally for narrative-driven paintings and drawings and technology-infused displays, Campello has worked as an artist, gallerist, curator, art critic, instructor, author, and arts blogger. He was named one of DC’s “most interesting people” by the Washington CityPaper. “Lenny has such a fresh take on art, and we thrilled he’s going to be a part of our show,” says MAA President Jennifer Barlow. “His level of support to new and experienced artists alike really wows us.”

The annual art show runs for three days—September 3-5—and features hundreds of pieces of artwork by member artists. Original paintings, drawings, sculptures, and photography—plus prints and notecards—will all be for sale. A portion of proceeds goes in support of MAA’s educational mission.


The City of Takoma Park will be participating in National Night Out, an annual event hosted by the police department to bring the community together as a whole to increase awareness of safety and crime prevention; to support locally-based businesses, groups and organizations; and to strengthen relationships among the community members and between the community and location police department. The City’s National Night Out Against Crime observance takes place every year the first Tuesday in August.  National Night Out is held by individual communities to demonstrate their commitment to being partners in the fight against crime.  National Night Out Against Crime is designed to heighten awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and enhance police-community relations.

Latino Conservation Week is wrapping up, but there are still free, fun events for you to attend! Check out Salsa in the Park(opens in a new tab) happening Thursday, July 21, from 5 to 8 pm at Waring Station Local Park. Also, come to our Latino Conservation Week Fiesta(opens in a new tab), on Saturday, July 23, from 5 to 10 pm at Wheaton Regional Park! We’re showing the film “Encanto” in English with Spanish subtitles. Free transportation from Wheaton and Glenmont Metro stations.


SummerFest 2022 will take place this Saturday, July 23, at the Olney Theatre at 2001 Olney-Sandy Spring Road in Olney. Montgomery Parks is hosting a series of special programs in celebration of Latino Conservation Week, July 16-25, 2022. The goal of the week, founded in 2014 by the Latino Access Foundation and observed nationwide, is to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards.

“Latino communities are passionate about the outdoors and hold a strong belief that we have a moral obligation to be good stewards,” said Maite Arce, president and CEO of Hispanic Access Foundation. “Latino Conservation Week helps break down barriers for Latino communities to access public lands and waters, encourages new opportunities for engagement and inspires the next generation of environmental stewards.
