In addition to photos of classmates and teachers, old yearbooks are full of fun snapshots of the era they were created. We recently flipped through the 1999 edition of Watkins Mill High School’s yearbook, Grinder, and found a playful feature titled “‘99 Things You Never Knew About Watkins Mill.” Some of the references are inside jokes best remembered by students and staff from that time, but many are fun facts about the Watkins Mill Wolverines that everyone can enjoy. Levita Almuete Ferrer, 65, of Montgomery Village, Md., was sentenced today in U.S. District Court to 12 months and one day in prison for embezzling more than $650,000 from the U.S. State Department over a two-year period, using the funds to fuel her gambling addiction, announced U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.
Last week, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) announced the arrest of 67-year-old Alejandro Ceferino Zunca of Montgomery Village for impersonating a police officer and driving a vehicle marked and equipped to resemble a police cruiser. (more…)
A Montgomery County, MD man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of a Morgantown, WV resident last summer. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, now-20-year-old Arnold Johnson III, of Montgomery Village, was convicted and sentenced in the shooting death of 21-year-old Rashad Malik Alton of Morgantown.

A dark chapter that occurred in Montgomery Village has resurfaced in Prime Video’s new three-part docuseries Abandoned: The Woman in the Decaying House, adapted from the award-winning podcast by Brazilian journalist Chico Felitti. The gripping documentary premiered on August 15, 2025 on Amazon Prime Video and revisits a shocking case from Montgomery Village, recounting how Margarida and René Bonetti were accused of enslaving their long-time family maid, Hilda Rosa dos Santos, during their years living here.
Montgomery Village’s Fall Festival will take place this year on Saturday, October 4 from 11am-2:30pm at North Creek Community Center (20125 Arrowhead Road). The event will feature food trucks, games, a petting zoo, and the annual Great Pumpkin Race.
It has now been 20 years since Tristan Courtland Turner disappeared, and his case remains unsolved. Turner, who was 22 at the time, was last seen on August 20, 2005, leaving his home in Montgomery Village, Maryland, to travel to Baltimore. He never returned and has not been heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, Turner was driving a borrowed black 2002 Honda Civic Del Sol with Maryland license plates.
