Community volunteer Sheena Saydam began hosting free monthly yard sales after noticing how many families felt overwhelmed by clutter or the stress of moving. With so many people looking to downsize and so many others in need of essential items, she saw an opportunity for what she describes as a collective win. What started as a simple idea revealed a much deeper level of need in the community.

The iconic entrance signs from Lakeforest Mall have officially been sold, giving local residents a chance to own one of the final physical remnants of the once-bustling Gaithersburg landmark. The auction, hosted last month by Capital Online Auctions, drew strong interest, particularly for the mall’s blue entrance signs, which received the highest bids.

KLNB has completed the sale of 189 Kentlands Boulevard in Gaithersburg, a two-story, 19,880-square-foot office property positioned on 1.28 acres in the center of the Kentlands community. The building sold for $5.95 million to Community Options, which will occupy the property as an owner-user, according to ConnectCRE.

Light Up the Lakefront is back at Rio in Gaithersburg this Saturday, December 6, bringing one of the area’s most popular holiday traditions to the waterfront. HOT 99.5’s Intern John, and The MoCoShow’s own “Mr. MoCo,” Alex Tsironis, will once again take the stage to host the event from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The free celebration promises an evening packed with lights, music, entertainment, and a fireworks finale over the lake (video of last year’s event below).

A new Dunkin’/Baskin Robbins is coming to 898 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, filling the former Starbucks space in Muddy Branch Square (photo is a rendering, signage is not yet up). The Starbucks, which closed earlier in September, was one of five Montgomery County stores shut down as part of a nationwide $1 billion restructuring plan.

Montgomery County Police (MCPD) are investigating a stabbing reported Friday evening at the Lakeforest Transit Center in Gaithersburg. Officers from the 6th District, which covers Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, were dispatched to the scene around 5:35pm for a report of an injured person.

Starvin Marvin’s Pizzeria & Grille has announced that it will close after 38 years in business, bringing a close to a well-known local brand with deep roots in Gaithersburg and Frederick. The owners shared the news in an emotional social media message titled “The End of Our Era,” saying they are ready to step away from the pizza business after nearly four decades.

When MoCoShow reader Igor Gindin was digging through old Washington Post archives, he stumbled on a story that stopped him cold: Rambo… in Montgomery Village. Given that Rambo star Sylvester Stallone spent part of his childhood in Montgomery County, the headline almost feels like it could be true. But the real story is a bit stranger than that.
