Additional Information on May’s Gaithersburg Book Festival

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual all-day celebration of books, writers and literary excellence. One of the premier literary events in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the 2022 Festival is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm (506 S. Frederick Ave.) in Gaithersburg, Md.

Activities will include author appearances, discussions and book signings; writing workshops; a Children’s Village; onsite sales of new and used books; literary exhibitors and food, drink, ice cream and more. Admission is FREE, and free accessible shuttle service will be available from Shady Grove Metro and Lakeforest Mall.

Beyond MoCo: Dogfish Head Alehouse to Close its Falls Church, VA Location

Dogfish Head Alehouse announced that it will be closing its Falls Church, VA location at 6220 Leesburg Pike in the Seven Corners Shopping Center. The restaurant says it was unable to come to terms with the property owner when it came time to renew its lease. The last day of service will be on May 15.

The Dogfish Alehouse locations at 800 W. Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg and 13041 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy in Fairfax, VA will remain open.

Car Driven Into Single-Family House in North Potomac

A car was driven into a single-family house on High Meadow Drive in N. Potomac around 2pm on Monday afternoon.

There was damage to the vehicle, as well as structural damage to the home, according to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Pete Piringer. A building inspector has been notified.

Montgomery Village: Car Driven Into Post Office

A car was driven into the Montgomery Village Post Office (10079 Stedwick Rd) on Monday afternoon around 12:20pm.

MCPD is currently on the scene and a towing company is in the process of removing the vehicle.

Saints Row Brewing’s Rockville Location Now Closed, New Olde Towne Gaithersburg Location Opening in May

Saints Row Brewing’s Rockville taproom served its last beer this past Saturday, April 16, as the brewery is moving to a new location in to Old Towne Gaithersburg, which is scheduled to open in May.

Saints Row will be taking over the former Brawling Bear production and taproom facilities at 15 Fulks Corner Ave. Brawling Bear ceased operations in 2020.

Gaithersburg Man Who Speaks Close to 40 Different Languages Featured on CBS Sunday Morning

Vaughn Smith, 46, of Gaithersburg, was featured on the April 17 edition of CBS Sunday Morning. A carpet cleaner by trade, Vaughn is a hyperpolyglot (someone who speaks at least 11 languages.)

According to an April 5 Washington Post article, “Vaughn makes an effort to get to know people in the language that shaped their lives. In return, they shape his. Welcoming him. Accepting him. Appreciating him.”

Construction Update of Pleasant View Park on Darnestown Road

Construction of Pleasant View Park, the 28th park in the City of Gaithersburg’s inventory, started back in November 2021.

The 9.54-acre park is located at the former Consumer Product Safety Commission site on Rt. 28. (10901 Darnestown Road). A 16-month construction period is anticipated, with completion in February 2023. Work will continue through the winter months, weather permitting.

Paranormal Cirque is Coming to Gaithersburg

Paranormal Cirque is coming to Gaithersburg from Thursday, April 28th until Sunday, May 1st at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds at 501 Perry Parkway.

Tickets range from $10-$50.

Update on Saturday’s Fire in Olde Towne Gaithersburg That Caused $1.5 Million in Damages

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire at the Diamond Auto Clinic located at 110 E Diamond Ave in Gaithersburg around 6pm on Saturday, April 16.

According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, an employee was closing the shop for night, heard a ‘pop’ and saw a fire in the rear of the building.
