The City invites you to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with educational & cultural presentations that include virtual programming, an official proclamation, and a special display at the Casey Farmers Market with vendor Ekowah Coffee & Running Strong with American Indian Youth. Residents are encouraged to learn about & celebrate Native American culture and participate in local events & programs taking place throughout the month, many coordinated by the City’s Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC).

An official proclamation designating November 2021 as “Native American Heritage Month” in the City of Gaithersburg was presented at the October 18 Mayor & City Council meeting. The proclamation was received by Dr. Michelle Alexander, Media Specialist at Richard Montgomery High School. Dr. Alexander is part Piscataway Indian, the only state-recognized tribe in Maryland. She is the chair of the Cultural Diversity & Awareness Action Team, sponsor of the Diverse Voices student club, and she continually educates students and other educators on the reality of Native issues. Per the City of Gaithersburg:

Those who wish to vote in-person for the City of Gaithersburg Municipal elections may take advantage of Early Voting on Saturday and Sunday, October 23 and 24, at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 S. Frederick Avenue next to Gaithersburg High School. The poll will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Privai, the luxury skin and body care line, announced the expansion of its brand earlier this week with the debut of Privai | Spa + Salon.Per the press release, they will open a Pike & Rose location followed by a Gaithersburg location here in MoCo.


We were able to confirm today that the Lidl at 19241 Montgomery Village Ave. in Montgomery Village will be opening on February 9, 2022.

Last month we let you know that the location has just begun hiring. Positions are now listed on Indeed.com and hiring signage has been placed in from of the building.


David L. Williams, of Gaithersburg, was given a life sentence today, with all but 45 years suspended. Williams pleaded guilty to first-degree rape on Oct. 4, stemming  from an incident that occurred on the morning of October 6, 2017.

According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, “Williams targeted a woman as she waited at the bus stop along Watkins Mill Rd. near Travis Ln. in Gaithersburg. He threw her down an embankment behind the bus stop, forced cocaine into her mouth and brutally raped and beat her, then stole her belongings leaving her there unconscious and naked.”


MCPS Interim Superintendent Monifa McKnight has shared recommendations of new proposed boundaries for the new Gaithersburg elementary school that will be located at Kelley Park.

The proposed boundaries are based on a study that involves all seven elementary schools in the Gaithersburg High School cluster, as well as Forest Oak and Gaithersburg middle schools.
