A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment against Brendyn Andrew, 33, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Dominique Collins, 37, of Stafford, Virginia.
Natalia Coronado-Mercer, a Richmond, Va., resident and sophomore at Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, was awarded first prize in the 2025 Gaithersburg Book Festival poetry contest for high school students for her poem “Chainlink Angels.” Two Montgomery County students also represented the area, winning third place and the “Fan Favorite” award.
The community is rallying around a Potomac Meadows family of four after a devastating house fire on May 16 destroyed their home and belongings, prompting the sole provider to launch a GoFundMe campaign to help cover temporary housing, essentials, and the long road to recovery. (more…)

On the morning of Friday, May 16, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a middle-of-the-row townhouse fire on the 11900 block of Roan Ln. in Gaithersburg. The accidental blaze caused extensive damage estimated at approximately $700K with three different families displaced, including the Bett family– mother and her three children. The community is actively supporting the family through a GoFundMe fundraiser.

On the morning of Friday, May 16, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a middle-of-the-row townhouse fire on the 11900 block of Roan Ln. in Gaithersburg. The accidental blaze caused extensive damage estimated at approximately $700K with seven adults and six children displaced from multiple homes. Arlington Fire Department Captain David Zuniga alerted the Song family by banging on their door, prompting their quick evacuation. A GoFundMe has been started for the Song Family, and a video of Captain Zuniga alerting them can be seen below. We were informed over the weekend that the Bett family was also displaced, with a fundraiser started for them that’s available here.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has arrested 26-year-old Nelson Vladimir Amaya-Benitez, an alleged MS-13 gang member and illegal Salvadoran national, in Gaithersburg, following multiple convictions including second-degree malicious burning, rogue and vagabond, and possession of marijuana. On Friday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire on the 11900 block of Roan Lane in Gaithersburg, displacing 13 residents and six pets. Among those who lost their home was Arlington Fire Department Captain David Zuniga, who was later praised for ensuring his neighbors’ safety by banging on their doors to prompt an evacuation.
The Gaithersburg Police Department (GPD) has arrested and charged a 65-year-old Gaithersburg man with robbery, second-degree assault, and home invasion in connection with a May 3 incident where a victim was assaulted and had groceries stolen from their garage. (more…)
