On Thursday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement in response to the Trump Administration’s designation of the County as a “sanctuary jurisdiction,” reaffirming that the county is not in violation of federal law and will not alter its policies based on political pressure. Elrich emphasized that the County will continue cooperating with federal immigration authorities in cases involving violent crimes and threats to public safety, while rejecting efforts to criminalize immigrants or divide the community.
