The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland announced that “Sarah Maud Jess, 62, a Jamaican national living in Capitol Heights, Maryland, pled guilty to two counts, distributing more than 40 grams of fentanyl and re-entry of an alien removed after conviction for an aggravated felony.” One arrest included an incident where Jess was on her way to an undisclosed mall in Silver Spring, MD to sell an undercover agent 700 pressed fentanyl pills.

Maryland’s sports wagering market contributed $88.9 million to the state in Fiscal Year 2025, a 47.4% increase over the previous year, with $9.2 million generated in June alone. The state’s share supports the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future education fund, and starting June 1, mobile operators began paying a higher tax rate under new legislation passed during the 2025 General Assembly session.
