Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has shared via a press release that the school system recorded notable improvement in this year’s Maryland School Report Card results, with 95.5% of schools earning a rating of three stars or higher, well above the statewide average of 86%, according to data released by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

In August 2024, we shared that Fuddruckers planned to return to Maryland and Washington DC, with new locations slated to open in the fall. The Shoppers Food store in Germantown, located at 18066 Mateny Road, has closed permanently as of Saturday, November 1. The Germantown location was one of four Maryland stores set to close by November 8, along with locations in College Park, Laurel, and Capitol Heights.
After more than two decades of roller coasters, summer crowds, and family memories, Six Flags America and its adjoining Hurricane Harbor water park officially close their doors today, Sunday, November 2, 2025. Located at 13710 Central Avenue in Bowie, the 500-acre property marks the end of an era as Maryland’s only Six Flags park concludes its final season.
Jey’s Subs and Pizza, located in Jessup (Anne Arundel County, and about a half hour or less away from some parts of Montgomery County), has closed permanently. The restaurant was one of several former Jerry’s Subs & Pizza locations that rebranded in recent years but continued to serve a nearly identical menu featuring cheesesteaks, subs, and pizza.
A federal judge ruled that the USDA must use contingency funds to continue the SNAP program during the government shutdown, prompting Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown to affirm that the state will keep fighting to ensure residents continue receiving benefits. (more…)
