Updated to reflect total of eight people transported to hospital due to the crash

Ridge Road in Damascus is currently closed just north of High Corner Street following a serious crash involving two vehicles that took down a utility pole. The roadway will remain closed even after emergency crash response clears for utility pole replacement.


Per Montgomery County Police: On Saturday, October 15, 2022, at approximately 11:16 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Frederick Road and Plummer Drive for the report of a traffic collision involving a truck and a jeep. An adult male passenger of the jeep was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the jeep was transported to an area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and passengers of the truck were transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The decedent’s name will be released following proper notification of next of kin.

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a crash involving two vehicles on southbound Rt. 355 Frederick Rd in the area of Plummer Drive in Germantown at approximately 11:15pm, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) chief spokesperson Pete Piringer and Battalion Chief Chase Fabrizio. Montgomery County Police has stated that an adult male passenger of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead on the scene.


Emergency crews were called to the scene of a collision between a vehicle and a scooter on Muddy Branch Rd & W Deer Rd in Gaithersburg at approximately 8am Saturday morning.

According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) PIO Pete Piringer, one adult is being evaluated with priority 2 trauma injuries that are non-life-threatening.

Representatives at the fair will include members of the Police Department, the Fire and Rescue Service, the Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire at the Fire Station 1 restaurant at 8131 Georgia Avenue in Downtown Silver Spring. Units arrived to find a fire in and around the exhaust system of the restaurant and fire coming from the chimney. The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked out and units checked for hot spots and extensions in other parts of the chimney, shaft, and ductwork of the restaurant.

No injuries were reported, but some lanes were blocked due to the fire in the Downtown Silver Spring area.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) we’re called to the scene of a traumatic injury due to a collision involving a motorcycle a little after 7am Wednesday morning, according to MCFRS Chief Spokeperson Pete Piringer.

The collision occurred in the northbound lanes of Wisconsin Avenue and Chestnut Street in Chevy Chase. Northbound Wisconsin Ave has been shut down as emergency medical services continue to evaluate a traumatic injury. Montgomery County Police has issued the following traffic advisory: Northbound Wisconsin Ave at Chestnut is shut down following a traffic collision. Drivers should expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services are on the scene at Giant in Muddy Branch Square (Gaithersburg) investigating a fuel odor in the store., according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. The store, located at 842 Muddy Branch Rd., has been temporarily evacuated during the investigation.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for smoke inside of Maiwand Grill, a popular restaurant serving Afghan cuisine in Burtonsville for approximately 20 years, on Monday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, there was no smoke or fire evident from outside of the restaurant upon arrival. The small fire, likely on the stove top, was quickly controlled and extinguished and there were no injuries. Units checked the exhaust systems and the restaurant is not likely to close for any period of time stemming from the small fire.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the Montgomery County Transfer Station at 16101 Frederick Rd. in Derwood (near Shady Grove Road) around noon today for a fire in large trash compactor, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. According to Piringer, the fire confined to the trash compactor on lower level.  The fire caused some smoke, but there were no injuries. Front end loaders and other heavy equipment will assist with complete extinguishment of the fire.

The Fire Prevention and Code Compliance division of the County’s Department of Permitting Services (DPS) is a team of inspectors, engineers, program managers and administrative support staff who are responsible for performing periodic inspections of establishments after the permitting process is complete.

According to Fire Code Compliance Manager Patsy Warnick, the team represents the fire department on all technical matters outside of emergency operations.
