Montgomery County Police responded to an incident involving a possible armed suspect that was barricaded in his residence in the 1700 block of Hampshire Green Lane in Silver Spring around 4am on Sunday, July 2. Because of the large police presence, Mount Pisgah and Hampshire Green Lanes were closed for several hours. Residents in the area were also asked to shelter in place while the situation was ongoing.

MCPD announced that the suspect, an adult male, had been taken into custody and roads had reopened around 6am. We will post an update if any additional information becomes available.


Che was last seen on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., in the 23000 block of Birch Mead Road.  Che is approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and brown hair. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Ian Bama Che is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line).


According to Montgomery County Police, “At approximately 8:03 p.m., MCP officers responded to an apartment building in the 7900 block of Spiceberry Cir in Gaithersburg for the report of an individual spraying a fire extinguisher in the hallway. 

Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with a victim who advised that the same individual had broken into his/her apartment. Officers searched for the suspect and located him in the area of Washington Grove Lane and Mineral Springs Drive, where the suspect assaulted officers. The suspect then fled to the McDonald’s located at 18273 Flower Hill Way and assaulted more officers.  


Montgomery County Police tweeted the following on Friday, June 30 at 7:41pm: “MCP 5th District officers are investigating a shooting in the 19600 block of Crystal Rock Drive in Germantown. No reported injuries. The scene is secured. More information will be released as it becomes available.”

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Christopher Calderon, a missing 14-year-old from Silver Spring.

Christopher Calderon was last seen on the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2023, in the 1700 block of Mount Pisgah Lane. Christopher is approximately 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and black Crocs.  He has braces with blue bands.  Police and family are concerned for his welfare.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council President Evan Glass joined the ceremonies on June 29 as the County broke ground on a new 6th District Police Station at 222 Paramount Park Drive in Gaithersburg. Serving the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village communities, the new 6th District Police Station will replace an outdated facility with a new, sustainably designed energy-efficient building scheduled to open in spring 2025.


Harmonee is approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. She has brown eyes and red hair. She was last seen wearing a gray shirt and black jeans. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.  Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Harmonee Sykes is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.

 


Montgomery County Police have announced that the issue preventing Verizon wireless customers from calling 9-1-1 has been resolved. Please call 911 for police, fire, or medical emergencies. Montgomery County Police had posted the following message on its social media accounts on Friday, June 30: “MCP Emergency Communications (911) is experiencing a Verizon wireless issue. In the case of an emergency, callers with Verizon phone plans are asked to call their district stations. Verizon is aware and attempting to fix the problem.

Update: The Verizon wireless connection issue has been resolved.


Per MCPD: A Silver Spring man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter and distribution of a controlled substance in connection with the death of an adult male who overdosed last Christmas.

Junior Salvador Alvarez Paz is accused of selling a controlled substance to the victim the morning of Sunday, December 25, 2022. Following an autopsy, the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be caused by fentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl intoxication.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating multiple hate-based vandalisms that occurred in Silver Spring. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s).

The preliminary investigation has revealed that during the overnight hours of Tuesday, June 27, 2023, to Wednesday, June 28, 2023, several Pride and Ukrainian flags had been burned in the Mansfield Road, Wayne Place, Ellsworth Place, Greenbrier Drive, Pershing Drive and Deerfield Avenue neighborhoods.
