The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services’ Child Care Support Services honored ten local early childhood professionals at the third annual Early Care and Education Excellence Awards, selected from over 250 nominations across six award categories.
Montgomery County Council President Kate Stewart and councilmembers will hold a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. to announce a proposed $7.75 million Public Service Support Resolution to aid residents and nonprofits affected by the federal government shutdown, with introduction on Nov. 4 and a public hearing and vote on Nov. 18. Montgomery County will participate in the national “Operation Green Light” initiative leading up to Veterans Day to honor veterans and raise awareness of local and national resources available to those who have served. From Nov. 4–11, the County will light public buildings in green, host community events and ceremonies, and unveil a Ride On bus tribute while encouraging residents and businesses to display green lights in recognition of veterans. Montgomery County will host a Racial Equity and Social Justice Town Hall on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mid-County Regional Service Center, 2425 Reedie Dr., Wheaton. The event will feature conversations with subject-matter experts on health, education, immigration, housing, economic opportunity, and community safety, along with nationally recognized guest speakers. Montgomery County Recreation, along with the cities of Gaithersburg, Rockville, and Takoma Park, has officially endorsed the Children’s Bill of Rights in Sports, developed by the Aspen Institute’s Project Play initiative, which promotes safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate youth sports opportunities.
On Monday, October 27 at 1:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Council’s Planning, Housing and Parks Committee will discuss the County’s development pipeline and a proposal to designate Timberlawn in Rockville as a historic site, while the Public Safety Committee will review courthouse security, Sheriff’s Office staffing, and the County’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program.
