Per MCPD: A 21-year-old Berwyn Heights, MD man is facing multiple weapons charges after being arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. On Saturday, February 11, at approximately 6:05 p.m., a Montgomery County Department of Police 3rd District patrol officer identified a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Columbia Pike at Tech Road. The officer radioed for assistance and once back-up arrived, attempted to make a traffic stop.
The driver of the 2009 Kia Spectra, later identified as Shaquan Demetrius Evans, fled southbound on RT 29 and became stuck in traffic at a red light on SB New Hampshire Ave. at Schindler Drive. Evans attempted to drive between the stopped vehicles hitting two cars, causing minor damage. The occupants in the two vehicles did not sustain any injuries. Evans bailed out of the Kia and ran into a nearby residential neighborhood. Another 3D officer found Evans hiding in a back yard. Evans again ran, with officers following. After a brief chase, officers apprehended Evans a few houses away in the 10800 block of New Hampshire Ave. K9 officers located a Glock 29 10mm handgun in the backyard where Evans was hiding.
Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Vice and Intelligence Unit (V&I) have charged a 51-year-old man with sexual solicitation of a minor after he attempted to meet up with who he thought was a teenage girl.
On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, Todd Eugene Immel, of Mt. Airy, initiated a conversation on a social media site with a V&I detective posing as a 15-year-old girl. Immel confirmed the “girl” was 15-years-old and continued to have sexually explicit conversations with her and asked to meet to engage in sexual activities.
Per Montgomery County: Fatmata Barrie has been named executive director of the new Montgomery County Police Accountability Board (PAB) and the Administrative Charging Committee (ACC). She was unanimously selected by the PAB and ACC subcommittee.
Ms. Barrie is a practicing attorney with more than 20 years of client-focused and result-centered experience. She also has approximately 30 years of experience as a community and civil rights advocate and organizer, with a focus on civic engagement and coalition building.

On Feb. 3, DuFief Elementary School in North Potomac welcomed Montgomery County Chief of Police Marcus Jones to speak to students on community leadership. The school is celebrating Black History Month by looking at ways to serve the community through leadership.
Along with the parent community and the DuFief Diversity Committee, the month will include guest speakers, including Robert Frost Middle School students and students from the Thomas S. In partnership with Montgomery Goes Purple, MCPS invites families to come out Saturday, Feb. 25 for an event and discussion on Fentanyl. Panelists will share important information on the dangers and prevalence of illegally-made fentanyl, prevention tools and protective factors for students, and resources for treatment when needed. The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Northwood High School Auditorium, 919 University Blvd W. in Silver Spring.
Breakout discussions for students and parents/caregivers & students, resource fair, COVID-19 vaccinations and refreshments will be available. Panel and breakout sessions will be in English and Spanish. Hundreds attended the Fentanyl Family Forum that took place at Clarksburg High School on January 28th.
Miller was last seen on Friday, February 3, 2023, at approximately 11 a.m., in the 12600 block of Granite Rock Road. Miller is approximately 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs 165 pounds. Chief Marcus Jones has released a statement on the death of Tyre Nichols, a 29-year-old man who died from injuries sustained by police after a traffic stop on January 7 in Memphis, TN. Memphis Police are scheduled to release body-cam footage of the incident on Friday evening. All five of the Memphis Police officers involved have been fired and indicted on murder charges. Per MCPD: “Our nation and the law enforcement community are once again faced with the death of a man at the hands of people who have taken an oath to protect and serve.
Five Memphis Police Officers have been fired and indicted on charges including murder and kidnapping in the death of Tyre Nichols. The Memphis, Tennessee officers also face charges of official misconduct and official oppression. Their actions are indefensible.
Per MCPS: Key leaders in education, law enforcement, health services, and drug use prevention advocates will gather to speak to an alarming rise in Illegal Opioid use, especially Fentanyl, in our youth. Data is showing not only a rise in overdose cases but a rise in death rates. These are dangerous trends that parents and students must be aware of.

Montgomery County Police issued a traffic advisory, at 8:05am on Sunday morning, that states Muncaster Mill Rd. is is closed between Windsor Manor Lane and Sycamore Lane due to a traffic collision. Per the advisory, drivers are advised to seek an alternate route and significant delays are expected.
