Montgomery County held its seventh annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony in Rockville to kick off Pride Month, joined by local officials, Congressman Jamie Raskin, and LGBTQ+ community leaders. The event featured keynote speakers from Montgomery County Public Schools and the MoCo Pride Center, and also marked the launch of this year’s “Ride With Pride” bus, which will run throughout June to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. Montgomery County has announced two free fireworks celebrations: Germantown Glory on Friday, July 4 at South Germantown Recreational Park and Mid-County Sparkles on Saturday, July 5 at Albert Einstein High School, both starting at 7 p.m. with live music and fireworks set for 9:15 p.m. In addition to the Montgomery County government events, fireworks will also take place at Gaithersburg’s SummerFest on Saturday, June 28 at Bohrer Park and at Rockville’s Independence Day Celebration on Friday, July 4 at Mattie J.T. Councilmember Evan Glass (At-Large) announced a month-long series of LGBTQ+ Pride events across Montgomery County in June, including a flag-raising ceremony in Rockville, a performance at Strathmore, and Pride in the Plaza in Silver Spring.
The Montgomery County (MD) Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a rise in scam calls where impersonators claim there’s a warrant for arrest and demand payment via prepaid cards. Officials emphasize that the Sheriff’s Office will never request money or financial information over the phone and urge anyone affected to report it. (more…)
Montgomery County’s minimum wage will increase by 50 cents on July 1, 2025, adjusting for inflation as required by county law. The new rates will be $17.65 per hour for large employers, $16 per hour for mid-size employers, and $15.50 per hour for small employers. (more…)
This morning we reported that the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) responded to a shooting involving multiple suspects and a tow truck driver overnight in Montgomery Village. This afternoon we heard from the driver of the tow truck. Photos of some of the damage can be seen below.
