On Thursday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich issued a statement in response to the Trump Administration’s designation of the County as a “sanctuary jurisdiction,” reaffirming that the county is not in violation of federal law and will not alter its policies based on political pressure. Elrich emphasized that the County will continue cooperating with federal immigration authorities in cases involving violent crimes and threats to public safety, while rejecting efforts to criminalize immigrants or divide the community. Montgomery County, in partnership with local governments and organizations, will host its 28th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, featuring live performances, vendors, food, and community programming under the theme “Pushing Back – The Fight for Freedom is Not Over.” The festivities begin with the African American Living Legends Awards Ceremony on June 20, honoring residents over age 75 for their significant contributions to the county, as leaders emphasize the importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture.
