28th Annual Juneteenth Celebration Held Today, Saturday, June 21, in Germantown

Montgomery County, in partnership with local governments and organizations, will host its 28th annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown, featuring live performances, vendors, food, and community programming under the theme “Pushing Back – The Fight for Freedom is Not Over.” The festivities begin with the African American Living Legends Awards Ceremony on June 20, honoring residents over age 75 for their significant contributions to the county, as leaders emphasize the importance of preserving and celebrating African American history and culture. Montgomery County Achieves Top National Recognition for Expanding Solar Energy Access

Council Committees to Review Road Abandonment, Water/Sewer Changes, and Zoning Proposals on Housing and Gas Stations

The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation and Environment Committee and Planning, Housing and Parks Committee will review proposals related to the abandonment of portions of Washington Grove Lane, two water and sewer category change requests, and zoning text amendments aimed at increasing workforce housing and clarifying setback rules for high-volume gas stations.

Drivers Advised to Get Second Opinion on Transmission Work Amid Repair Complaints

The Montgomery County Office of Consumer Protection is warning residents about costly and ineffective transmission repairs at some local shops, where drivers are paying thousands for fixes that may ultimately leave their vehicles in worse condition. Officials advise consumers to ask questions, consider full transmission rebuilds over partial repairs, and seek second opinions to avoid unnecessary expenses.

Community Effort Saves Autistic 8-Year-Old Girl in Germantown

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at approximately 9:18 pm, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) received a 911 call from a mother reporting that her 8-year-old autistic daughter was missing from their home. MCPD shared the story of community members and 5th District officers safely locating the young girl.

Over 200 Storm-Related Fire and Rescue Calls Reported in 2-Hour Span Thursday

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to 600 incidents, including 295 medical calls and 247 fire-related calls, more than 200 of which occurred between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., mostly involving downed trees and wires. (more…)

Home Improvement Contractor Ordered to Pay Over $4.4 Million for Violating Maryland Consumer Protection Laws

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown’s Consumer Protection Division issued a Final Order requiring Optimum Construction, Optimum Interiors, and their owner Amr “Omar” Elrahimy to pay over $4.4 million in restitution and penalties for failing to complete home improvement projects after collecting payments from Maryland consumers.
