Montgomery County residents with combined household incomes of $64,000 or less can now schedule free virtual and in-person tax appointments with the Community Action Agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for prior years, amended and current year (2023) returns. VITA services are available by appointment through Thursday, Oct. 24.

In December we let you know that Nash & Smash, a restaurant that serves Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, fried chicken, smash burgers, and more, is coming soon to MoCo. Construction began this spring and now permanent signage is up at the restaurant, according to a photo sent in to us by My Dad’s Chips (who was making a delivery at nearby Santucci’s Deli).

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has stated that a 1.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Spencerville, near Cloverly and Burtonsville, in Montgomery County on Monday Night. USGS reports that the 5.9-depth earthquake occurred shortly before 11:30 pm on Monday night near Spencerville, Maryland.


Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, County Council President Andrew Friedson, Councilmembers, representatives of the County’s departments of General Services (DGS) and Transportation (MCDOT), AlphaStruxure, Pepco, Federal and State officials joined the groundbreaking ceremonies on an integrated microgrid project at the County’s David F. Bone Equipment Maintenance and Transit Operation Center (EMTOC) on Friday, June 14.
