MCPD Update: “At approximately 9:46 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Long Branch Local Park in the 700 block of Langley Drive, for reports of shots fired. Officers located two adult males with apparent gunshot wounds near the rear of the basketball court by the playground.

One victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His current status has not been confirmed. Despite life-saving efforts, the second victim was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the decedent, following proper next-of-kin notification.” (more…)


The 11th annual Montgomery County “Friendship Picnic” will again bring people of many cultures and faiths together to celebrate the County’s diversity. The free picnic, whose goal is to enable people to make new friends and build a stronger community, will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Wheaton Regional Park.

Montgomery County issued an RFP seeking an experienced organization to manage its four Innovation Centers in Germantown, Rockville, North Bethesda, and Silver Spring, expand commercialization resources and programming for tech startups countywide, and oversee operations and services, with proposals due Sept. 22 and an optional pre-submission meeting on Sept. 11. The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) is reminding residents that, as of Tuesday, July 1, drivers are prohibited from making right turns at red traffic signals in designated downtown and town center areas across the county. The policy, part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (Bill 11-23), aims to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in some of Montgomery County’s busiest corridors. (more…)


The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in connection with the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier earlier this month here in Montgomery County.

It has now been 20 years since Tristan Courtland Turner disappeared, and his case remains unsolved. Turner, who was 22 at the time, was last seen on August 20, 2005, leaving his home in Montgomery Village, Maryland, to travel to Baltimore. He never returned and has not been heard from since. At the time of his disappearance, Turner was driving a borrowed black 2002 Honda Civic Del Sol with Maryland license plates.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT), more than 200 “No Turn on Red” signs have recently been installed across Montgomery County as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023 (MC Bill 11-23). The measure requires MCDOT to add the signs to designated traffic lights unless a safety risk is identified. (more…)


Montgomery County Inspector General Megan Davey Limarzi released the Office of the Inspector General’s Annual Report, highlighting 13 reports with 30 recommendations, over $18.1 million in questioned costs, and 378 complaints processed during fiscal year 2025. (more…)


2:24pm Update: MCPD, RCPD, Park Police responded to Rockville High School and determined that it was a swatting call. There is no validity to the report.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared the following information at 1:55pm on Wednesday afternoon. “@MCPS has placed Rockville High School on lockdown following the report of a person with a firearm near the school. RCPD and MCPD are investigating the validity of the report.
