The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security has issued a Heat Emergency Alert from noon Monday, June 23, through 8 a.m. Thursday, June 26, due to dangerously high temperatures and heat index values expected to reach 105 degrees, prompting the County to open cooling centers, provide free water on buses, and urge residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
An Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect for parts of central and northern Maryland, DC, and northern Virginia from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. EDT on Monday. The National Weather Service has also issued an Extreme Heat Watch for the same areas from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. During these periods, dangerously hot conditions are expected, with heat index values soaring up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
