MCPS announced a two-hour delayed opening for Monday and said the decision will be re-evaluated early Monday morning, as snow began falling across parts of Montgomery County Sunday evening. The district cited slick roads, uneven impacts across the county, and concerns about staff travel.


Montgomery County’s Chief Administrative Officer Richard Madaleno shared a parking advisory Saturday night as snow is expected to fall from Sunday into Monday, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for roughly half of the county and a Winter Weather Advisory for the remaining areas.

An Extreme Cold Alert has been issued for Montgomery County, Maryland from Sunday, February 22 at 7am until Monday February 23 at 3pm, due to wind chill values expected to fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Officials are urging residents to wear layers, limit time outdoors when possible, and take extra precautions if spending extended time outside. (more…)


A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from 3pm Sunday through 10am Monday. The warning includes Frederick County and Northwest Montgomery County in Maryland, along with Eastern and Western Loudoun counties in Virginia.

Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with general accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see significantly higher totals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.
