MCPS announced a two-hour delayed opening for Monday and said the decision will be re-evaluated early Monday morning, as snow began falling across parts of Montgomery County Sunday evening. The district cited slick roads, uneven impacts across the county, and concerns about staff travel.
Based on the latest snowfall maps, most of Montgomery County falls into the 3 to 6 inch range. Lower totals are expected in areas such as Bethesda and Silver Spring, while higher amounts are more likely farther north and west, including places like Damascus.
Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories remain in effect as the National Weather Service’s (NWS) projected snow totals have increased across much of Maryland and Northern Virginia.
The four major local television networks have all released updated snowfall maps for Sunday into Monday, and they are largely in agreement on the overall setup and expected totals across the region.

Montgomery County’s Chief Administrative Officer Richard Madaleno shared a parking advisory Saturday night as snow is expected to fall from Sunday into Monday, with a Winter Storm Warning in effect for roughly half of the county and a Winter Weather Advisory for the remaining areas.
An Extreme Cold Alert has been issued for Montgomery County, Maryland from Sunday, February 22 at 7am until Monday February 23 at 3pm, due to wind chill values expected to fall below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. NBC4 meteorologist Amelia Draper says families should prepare for school delays and possible closures on Monday as another winter storm moves into the region.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for parts of Maryland (including NW Montgomery County) and Northern Virginia from 3pm Sunday through 10am Monday. The warning includes Frederick County and Northwest Montgomery County in Maryland, along with Eastern and Western Loudoun counties in Virginia.
Heavy snow is expected in the warning area, with general accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. Higher elevations above 1,000 feet could see significantly higher totals, ranging from 6 to 12 inches. Winds may gust as high as 35 mph, which could lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility at times.
The National Weather Service has increased projected snowfall totals across the region, but forecasters stress that the range of possible outcomes remains extremely wide, reinforcing a classic boom-or-bust setup ahead of Sunday into Monday.
The Winter Storm Watch has expanded to include more of Maryland (now including anll of Montgomery County), DC, and Northern Virginia, as confidence grows in a potentially impactful storm late Sunday into Monday.
