The Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel will offer its final rides at Wheaton Regional Park on Sunday, October 27, before being refurbished and relocated to its original intended home at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park in Clarksburg. A new carousel is planned for Wheaton in spring 2025, while the beloved miniature train will continue to operate at the park. (more…)

Montgomery Parks is inviting people of all ages and abilities to join birding activities during Birdability Week, October 21-27, 2024. The fifth annual event is a national recognition of the accessibility of birding to people of all abilities and experiences.
Montgomery Parks’ Garden of Lights returns to Brookside Gardens (1800 Glenallan Ave, Wheaton), featuring over 1.5 million LED lights in a dazzling outdoor display. Tickets go on sale October 14, with the exhibit opening on November 22. Tickets are $10 per person for ages 5 and older, with free admission for children under 5 (registration required).

Montgomery Parks’ Jennifer Scully, Regional Operations Manager and waterfowl aficionado has put her stamp of approval on the winner of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2024 Federal Duck Art Stamp Contest. Scully served as a judge for the prestigious national art contest, and with a panel of four peers selected this year’s winner, Adam Grimm of Wallace, South Dakota for his acrylic painting of a pair of spectacled eiders.
