Montgomery Parks has announced the opening of three new playgrounds this spring at parks in Silver Spring, Wheaton, and Olney. The newly renovated playgrounds are located at Indian Spring Terrace Local Park, Olney Mill Neighborhood Park, and Valleywood Neighborhood Park. All of the playgrounds include equipment for kids aged 2- 5 and 5 – 12.

The South Germantown Adventure Playground, located at 17920 Germantown Park Dr., will be closed for construction from summer 2025 through spring 2026. The new playground will feature inclusive, high-performance play areas, nature play, intergenerational activities, and opportunities for learning and social connection.

Maryland-National Capital Park Police (Montgomery County Division) responded to Lake Frank in Derwood on Saturday for a juvenile bald eagle caught in fishing line with a hook in its mouth. The eagle was rescued, treated at the Moon Owl Raptor Center, and will be released soon.

Many have sent in their own photos and videos wondering why we haven’t shared any visuals of the “waterfall” at Burnt Mills Local Park in Silver Spring. While we have provided information in the past, today we’ll take a closer look at the Burnt Mills Dam– visible from a busy stretch of Colesville Rd.
