Olney
BillStock, a family-friendly music festival featuring over 50 musicians, most of whom are Sherwood High School alumni who performed in school’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival,” takes place June 8 at Davis Airport (7200 Hawkins Creamery Rd) in Laytonsville. The event is hosten by the Sherwood Community Chamber Choir and proceeds will benefit the Olney Community Youth Choirs, which serve students in grades 4-8 regardless of school affiliation.
Carla Glawe has been the principal of Olney Elementary School, since 2011. She took over following the retirement of Joan O’Brien who was the school’s principal for 19 years. Prior to coming to Olney Elementary School, Glawe served as principal intern and acting principal at Stonegate Elementary School where she began her teaching career in 1997 as a first-grade teacher. While in MCPS, she has also spent three years as a consulting teacher, working with new and under-performing teachers in the county, and then as an assistant principal at Harmony Hills Elementary School before returning to Stonegate. Montgomery Parks is now offering public tours of the historic Woodlawn Manor House at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park in Sandy Spring, following the completion of much-needed repairs. The historic manor dates to the early 1800s and served as the home of the Palmer family who owned and managed the farm for over 100 years.
Classic Bakery will be opening a new location at 18195 Village Center Dr. in Olney- the bakery’s third overall, adding to Gaithersburg and Tyson’s Corner. It will be taking over the space that’s currently home to Cold Stone until June 1st (the ice cream shop will move to a new location within the Olney Village Center). Classic Bakery hopes to open in the fall of 2024.

Cousins Maine Lobster, a leading quick-service Maine lobster roll concept, previously announced the launch of their newest franchise market in Maryland when they opened their new food truck on August 18 at Streetcar 82 Brewing Company in Hyattsville, Maryland. Today, May 24th, they’ll be at the Olney Village Center (18330 Town Center Dr.) near IHOP until 7pm. They’ll be in Gaithersburg at 122 Kentlands Blvd from 11am-7pm on Tuesday, May 28th.
A portion of Georgia Avenue is closed in Brookeville after a driver crashed into a pole in the area of 22015 Georgia Avenue. According to aerial footage by Tim Pruss, wires are currently down in the area. Delays are expected. We will provide an update if we receive any additional details surrounding this crash.

Three Points Cycles at 3231 Spartan Rd in Olney has announced it will be closing its doors after Memorial Day.

In what seems to be unfortunate timing for an ice cream shop, Cold Stone Creamery will be closing its Olney location from June 1st until the fall of 2024 as it moved to a new location within the shopping center. We have since learned that Classic Bakery will be moving into the space that Cold Stone is vacating.
