California-based Dave’s Hot Chicken opened its first Montgomery County location in White Oak on November 15 and is set to launch a second restaurant at 11564 Rockville Pike in the Metro Pike Shopping Center This new Dave’s site will occupy the former McDonald’s location, which is relocating to 11710 Rockville Pike later this year.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested 37-year-old Wilmer Alvarado-Gomez of Rockville for sexually assaulting a child and is concerned there may be additional victims. He has been charged with multiple counts of second-degree rape and is being held without bond. (more…)


Last October, Buy Buy Baby announced that it will be closing all existing stores and transforming into a digital-first brand “focusing all our energy on providing an exceptional online shopping experience.” The last day for its Rockville location (1683 Rockville Pike), which is the first location to ever open, will be Tuesday, February 25th, an employee confirmed this morning.

In October we let you know that ZiZa Kabob, which opened its first restaurant at  7351 Assateague Dr. in Jessup, signed on to open its second location in the Twinbrook Quarter development that will feature the upcoming Wegmans in Rockville. Now, the restaurant says it expects to open in late 2025. Signage has gone up on the door of its upcoming location at 1675 Chapman Ave.

This year we commemorate the 50th anniversary of Armand’s, the local chain that captured the hearts, and appetites, of pizza lovers across the DC Metro area. Founded in 1975, Armand’s began as a humble pizzeria on Veazey Street and Wisconsin Avenue NW near Tenley Circle in Washington, D.C., and quickly blossomed into a beloved institution. At its peak, the chain boasted over 25 locations, including multiple restaurants right here in Montgomery County. Today, however, only two family-owned locations remain, the Rockville restaurant (190 Halpine Rd.) and “Armand’s By the Sea” in Bethany Beach, DE.
