Last November we let you know that PGA TOUR Superstore will be taking over most of the  location that was formerly home to Shoppers at 5100 Nicholson Lane in White Flint Plaza. The store announced on its website that it will hold a Grand Opening on Saturday, July 30th, that will include “unbelievable savings and prizes throughout the weekend, including $30,000 IN GOLF AND TENNIS GIVEAWAYS!”

PGA TOUR Superstore is one of the biggest retailers in the golf industry, with more than 40 locations in 16 states. They opened a location in nearby Fairfax last year. All stores are staffed with certified teaching professionals, state-of-the-art swing simulators and hitting bays, an expansive putting green, and an in-house club making and repair facility. Each location also offers an extensive assortment of men’s, women’s and junior’s golf clubs, footwear, accessories, golf balls and multiple lines of apparel for men, women and juniors.


Jackson Hoppe was last seen at approximately 4:40 a.m., on Friday, July 22, 2022, walking in the 100 block of Watkins Pond Boulevard in Rockville.

Hoppe is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and weighs 90 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.  He was last seen wearing a gray hoodie and either black sweatpants or black shorts.


Several people were rescued from a trench on Thursday afternoon on the 9600 block of Veirs Dr, near Oakwood Drive in Rockville. According to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, “Several people were in trench, they’ve been removed except for 1 person who was partially buried up to the waist, small trench trench is 6 feet deep, 3 feet wide and about 10 feet long.” Update: The last remaining person in the trench has been removed.

The incident began shortly before 2pm. Medivac was called to the scene to transport the individual who was stuck in the trench for an extended period. The person was described as an adult male “worker”. Footage or the incident below:


Èkó House, a modern Pan-African restaurant located in Rockville Town Square announces its grand opening weekend on July 29 and 30, 2022. A manager at the restaurant was able to confirm that Miller’s Ale House will be closing permanently in August (the date has since been updated to September 25th) after approximately 10 years at 1471 Rockville Pike in Rockville. The location was previously home to Hooters before it moved across the Pike (and later closed) and Shakey’s before that. Miller’s Ale House is a Florida-based American restaurant and sports bar chain that was founded in 1988. The restaurant serves steaks, chicken, burgers, salads, seafood, and more. Though most of their locations are in Florida (over 50), there are over 30 other locations open across the east coast. Miller’s Ale House has nearby locations in Hyattsville and Sterling, VA locations.


Rockville City Police Detectives have arrested and charged a man with attempted first-degree murder. On July 15, 2022 at 1:45 a.m. officers responded to the 100 block of Gibbs Street for the report of a fight in progress, which was then updated to a shooting. Responding officers located an adult male victim shot three times, he was transported to an area hospital where he continues to recover from his non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation has revealed that a verbal dispute took place between the suspect and the victim, who are known acquaintances of each other. The verbal dispute escalated into a physical fight, the suspect took out a handgun and fired it several times striking the victim. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.


Berry Cup, a locally owned fro-yo shop at 36-B Maryland Ave in Rockville that served probiotic yogurt, Taiwanese shaved ice (also called snow cream), Hawaiian shaved ice, and boba tea has closed.  According to its bio on the Rockville Town website, “At Berrycup, each customer becomes a Yogurt Artist. Single-family homeowners and nonprofits, including religious institutions, private schools, homeowners associations and condominium associations, can receive up to a lifetime maximum of $2,500 in rebates for the approved projects below.


Rockville City Police responded to a call for a shooting at the 100 block of Gibbs Street in Rockville early Friday morning, which is located in Rockville Town Square. The RCPD posted the following update on in its social media account shortly before 9am:

“Around 1:45 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Gibbs St for the initial report of fight in progress, which was then changed to a shooting. Officers located an adult male shot several times. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The victim/suspect, who appear to be known to each other, got into a physical altercation. The suspect shot the victim several times. This is an active investigation, there is no threat to the community.”

Planet Fitness will be opening a new location at 5520 Randolph Rd in Rockville (Montrose Shopping Center) in the space that was formerly occupied by Gold’s Gym, according to a report by Rockville Nights. No opening date has been announced. Planet Fitness currently has MoCo locations in Germantown, Rockville, and two in Silver Spring.

In June, Planet Fitness at 255 Muddy Branch Rd in Gaithersburg  announced it would no longer be open 24 hours, seven days a week.  The gym now closes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 9pm and reopens the following morning.  The other MoCo locations will remain 24-7 according to a representative at the Gaithersburg gym.  Also in Planet Fitness news, teenagers in MoCo can work out for free all summer at Planet Fitness through August 31st by downloading a digital key tag on PlanetFitness.com.  Any teenager to sign up for the program is automatically entered for a chance to win a $500 scholarship (one winner per state).
