Starting today and running through Saturday, Carmen’s Italian Ice at 1115 Nelson St in Rockville is doing their annual “Pay the Price of the Weather” promotion. Whatever the temperature is outside, that’s the price of a small Italian ice (you can substitute gelati for an extra dollar.)

While obviously not a huge money maker for the store, Carmen’s owner Jason Mandler tells us the promotion is a nice treat for their diehards fans and something fun to do during the off-season, when people don’t typically have frozen treats on their mind.

Yesterday a tweet from longtime MoCo screen printing and embroidery company, Sports Extra, gained traction when they displayed burgundy and gold apparel with the name “Red Hogs” on it.

We’re not trying to ruin any surprises here, but this shipment just arrived from UPS. Not sure if it was supposed to be delivered here. Just called UPS and they are coming back to get it. Either way, let’s go Red Hogs!!!!! pic.twitter.com/9uqMnZEEXE

At 3:30 a.m. this morning, Rockville City Police responded to call for burglary on Bullard Circle.  The homeowner found an unknown suspect in his home and chased him out.

Police believe the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door. RCPD Investigators have we’re canvassing the area this morning and afternoon for any video surveillance from nearby homes.

Yesterday we let you know that Loft is closing its Congressional Plaza location in Rockville. We now have confirmation that a J.Crew Factory storee will be its replacement at 1637 Rockville Pike.

“We’re excited to welcome yet another favorite brand to Congressional Plaza. J.Crew will join a robust retail line-up including most recent additions Athleta and Lands’ End. J.Crew is expected to open in summer 2022, and will be located between Ulta Beauty and Appalachian Springs.”

This past summer we let you know that El Mercat Bar De Tapas would be taking over the spot that was most recently home to Gumbo Ya Ya, at 101 Gibbs Street Unit C in Rockville Town Square.

The restaurant held a ticketed preview dinner event this weekend, and will be opening for dinner service to the public tomorrow (Monday, January 23) starting at 5pm, with lunch and brunch arriving in the coming weeks.

Per RCPD:

On January 20, 2022 around 8:00 p.m. RCPD officers were patrolling in the 700 block of Monroe Street and conducted a traffic stop. During the course of the stop, officers located a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the vehicle. Officers also located a second loaded semi-automatic handgun in the waistband of the passenger’s pants. An inspection of both handguns revealed them to be “ghost guns” with no serial numbers and equipped with extended magazines. Ghost guns are unserialized and untraceable firearms that can be bought online as a kit and assembled by the purchaser.
